Monstera

Monstera deliciosa, also known as Swiss Cheese Plant is a unique houseplant with large leaves. It adds a tropical feel to your home. It is a climber that can be trained to attach itself to moss-covered poles inside to mimic the trees found in its native habitat of Central and Mexico America. It can also be grown in a pot or suspended over the edge of a table or even on a surface.

This tropical plant is easy to grow, and it has a unique appearance. It requires sunlight that is bright and indirect, as well as well-drained soil. It can also tolerate low levels of humidity but will do best when it is in higher humidity.

This plant is named for the splits and holes it displays on its leaf. They are known as fenestrations and they develop as the plant grows. It belongs to the Araceae plant family that includes Pothos, Philodendrons and ZZ plants, among many others.

The flowers of this plant look like corn ear and produce a delicious fruit that has been described as a mixture of pineapple and banana. They can be consumed raw or cooked. house plants that clean the air is important to know that the fruits of this plant could be laxative and therefore moderation is essential.

This tropical plant can endure cold temperatures, making it a unique. Most other aroids will quickly turn to mush in very cold temperatures However, Monsteras can withstand cold temperatures and flourish.

Monstera, like most aroids needs to be watered sparingly. Only water when the top inch or so of the soil is dry. When you water, be sure to let the excess water drain out of the drainage hole in the bottom of the pot. Like most tropical house plants, Monstera requires a balanced liquid fertilizer. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of a balanced 20-20-20 liquid plant food in one gallon of water and feed your plant every couple of weeks throughout the growing season.

Begonia

Begonias provide a splash of color and interest to flower pots, window boxes and garden beds. They are simple to grow and are tropical treasures. There are begonias available in bright shapes and colors that match your design, whether you opt for single or double-flowered varieties. Begonias are a great alternative to other exotic houseplants due to the fact that they bloom all the time during the growing season. They don't require any special care, except for regular watering once a month.

More than 2,000 plant species belong to the genus of Begonia, with most having colorful leaves and flowers. The majority of them are native to the tropical regions, but some are able to thrive in cooler climates.

Tuberous begonias, like the'Non-Stop' variety, which is popular are a great choice for shaded spots and containers for outdoor use. These plants are frost-sensitive and grow from round, firm or oval tubers with either an upright or slender growth habit (for containers for plants and flower boxes) or cascading characteristics (for hanging baskets). To grow well house plants that clean the air require bright sunlight with a little shade. However, they may not bloom in very dense shade or in areas with hot, direct sunlight. Wax begonias can withstand full sun, but will quickly burn in hot temperatures.

Most begonias are self-cleaning and don't require deadheading; however, they could benefit from trimming in the fall and spring to encourage new growth. They also thrive when they are planted in a rich, loose soil. This could be a mixture with organic material, or a light, loamy mix with slow-release fertilizer.

If you'd like propagation of begonias, plant tubers with the hollow side facing upwards 6 to 8 inches apart in a shallow tray filled with moist potting mix. Keep the mix moist, but not soggy, and place the tray in a dark space. The seeds should start to grow in about 4 weeks, and will then be moved to a location that has bright light once they're about 1 inch tall. Make sure there is no chance of frost before planting outdoors. You can also start begonias with seeds or by planting begonias in wax. house plants that clean the air are available in greenhouses and garden centers.

Anthurium

Anthuriums also referred to as tail flowers and flamingo flowers are a tropical addition to brightly lit rooms. It's easy to maintain and produces flowers all year round. Anthuriums, which were originally epiphytes that grow on the surface of plants or in the air, too are durable and hardy house plants.

The anthurium's "flower" is actually a spathe, a protective sheath that covers a tiny, real flower inside. The flowers are available in red, pink or white, and last for several weeks. The colorful anthurium is popular as a hostess gift, and it's also often used in wedding bouquets on Hawaiian and Pacific Islands.

Anthurium is part of the genus Araceae which includes over 1,000 species of flowering plant. Some are well-known, including the hibiscus and poinsettia. Other are less well-known, such as the tulip tree as well as the arum palm.

While it is possible to grow anthuriums by seeds, it could take up to four years before you notice any flowers. You can see faster results by cutting anthuriums of mature plants. Look for a well-established anthurium with roots that are compacted and ready to be divided. Use a dry, clean knife to cut off a small portion of the anthurium. Take care not to damage its roots.

A freshly cut anthurium can be transplanted to an uncooked pot of slightly damp vermiculite. Place the cut in a place that stays around 70F and is exposed to indirect, bright light. If popular house plants , mist the soil and plant often and run a humidifier close to it. Give the anthurium regular fertilizer however, don't apply too much since it burns the roots.

Repot anthuriums every few years or whenever the root ball becomes too big for the container. Choose a pot 20 percent larger than the anthurium's current one to avoid shock.

If your anthurium's leaves have lost their shine then spray a bit of natural soap in a diluted form on the foliage and wipe it with a damp cloth. This allows the plant to breathe and will restore its beautiful shine. Anthuriums can suffer from spider mites. to suffer, but a pesticide can prevent this.

Coconut Palm

Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera) is a tropical plant that is cultivated extensively around the globe for its edible fruit. It is among the most important and widely distributed agricultural plants of the tropics and is believed to have originated in Indo-Malaya. The wood of the trunk can be used to build huts and bridges. The fibres from the shells or husks are used to make ropes. The coconut is actually a drupe not an nut.

When the seeds make an audible sloshing sound when shaken the seeds are ready to be planted. The seeds should be laid on their side with the eyes slightly upwards, and then planted in the soil for about half the thickness of the hardshell. Germination can take a long time, but can be increased by high temperatures and humidities. After six months, the roots and shoots are ready for transplantation.

The plant is ideally for warmer climates. It can withstand frost but should not exposed to temperatures that are below freezing, as it could suffer damage. It requires plenty of sunshine and a sheltered location with sandy soil that drains well. Regular watering is necessary, but it should be kept moist but not soaked. Fertilizing is also important and should be done using a fertilizer with the highest nitrogen content.

During the spring, this palm produces fragrant flowers that smell sweet on slightly branched stems which grow male and female coconuts. The flowers are protandrous and the male flowers open up before the females. The flowers are pollinated by the wind. After about 4-6 years the tree will begin bearing fruits.

For indoor cultivation, it's recommended to plant this exotic houseplant in a pot with rich, well-draining soil. It prefers a sunny spot however, it will tolerate light that is low. As it grows, repot the plant in a pot that is larger than the root ball. Make sure to water it thoroughly and feed the plant regularly with liquid fertilizer. The Coconut Palm is generally pest-free however it is affected by a condition known as lethal yellowing, for which there is no cure, and that can kill the plant.
