Mac DeMarco Boxers
In high school, it was quite easy to categorize individuals based on their personalities or reputations. Everyone had their crushes as well as the class clown. Mac DeMarco has been on the radar of underclass people for some time due to his cool tunesmith appearance and lovable personality. But how does he fit into the world of Brooklyn-bred Mr. Rogers?


Mac's style and sound are instantly recognizable after the release of his album Salad Days. His music is described by his label as jizz jazz, and his guitar chords that jangle give off a a friendly, do-good feel. Another One, his latest EP, follows in this direction. The most recent Mac DeMarco album is still well-known as an Mac DeMarco album, but the sounds are more synthesized and his lyrics have been changed.


Silver Lake, where DeMarco sings, is a stench of the odor of stale nicotine and alcohol. A half-empty bottle of Campari is placed next to a pack of Marlboros sitting on the coffee table. The curls that are combed-out of his hair are glued on the back of his neck from an earlier shower and the overalls they're wearing are damaged across several places.



The 29-year-old Canadian transplant is on a quest to redefine what a rockstar should look like. But he has also maintained a tone like acoustic and low-fi as your grandmother's guitar.


To celebrate Canada's official holiday Boxing Day, DeMarco released the cover version of "White Christmas" on his YouTube page (complete with a detested Jar Jar Binks-decked artwork). It's a kitschy keyboard cabaret that feels right at home with the Canadian drag queens and punks that make up Mac's droll scene.


DeMarco is having a great time this week. He's scheduled to tour to perform Five Easy Hot Dogs as the whole, and he's just uploaded a half-decade's worth not yet released music to online streaming services. The compilation, called One Wayne G, spans over 199 tracks. The track titles typically include the number, followed by a word (20180512 as an example).


The overalls of DeMarco's got caught on the amp strap during his set on Friday at Our Wicked Lady, Brooklyn. He refused to let it go to waste. Instead, macdemarcomerch shook off his overalls and kept playing. This was a perfect example of his style of play and shows how far he has come over the past few years.
