house plants names of monstera delicciosa is also often referred to as hole leaf monstera, gives an exotic look to any interior. Another option that is exotic is the bird of paradise flower, with its distinctive, slender orange or blue flowers.
Monstera
Monstera Deliciciosa or Swiss Cheese Plant is an exotic houseplant with large leaves. It provides an exotic look to your home. It is a climber that can be trained to attach itself to poles that are covered with moss, to resemble the trees that are native to its habitat in Central and Mexico America. However, it also does well in pots and is suspended over the edge of a table or another surface.
In addition to its unique appearance, this tropical plant is simple to grow. Just make sure it has direct, bright sunlight and well-draining soil. It is tolerant of low humidity, but it performs best when humidity is higher.
As its name suggests, this plant is renowned for the holes and splits it shows on its leaves. These are known as fenestrations and they appear as the plant grows. It is part of the Araceae family, as well as Pothos, Philodendrons, ZZ plants, and a myriad of other popular household foliage plants.
As with other aroids Monstera is quite tolerant in its growth and can be cultivated as an indoor or outdoor plant. It can even be grown in dappled shade, which is typical of its forest understory habitat.
The flowers of this plant are reminiscent of an ear of corn and produce a delicious fruit that has been described as a combination of banana and pineapple. They can be eaten raw or cooked. The fruit of this plant can have a laxative affect and it is therefore important to eat it in moderately.
This tropical plant can endure frigid temperatures, which makes it a unique. Aroids in general will melt in extremely cold temperatures however Monsteras can withstand cold temperatures and flourish.
Monstera like other aroids, requires a little watering. Only water when the top inch or so of soil is completely dry. Be sure to let any excess water drain from the drainage hole in the bottom of the pot when you water. Like all tropical houseplants Monstera also requires a balanced liquid fertiliser. Use 1 teaspoon of balanced 20-20-20 liquid fertilizer in one gallon water to feed your Monstera plant every couple of weeks throughout the growing season.
Begonia
Begonias provide a splash of color to window boxes, flower pots and garden beds. They are easy to grow and are tropical treasures. Begonias are available in bright designs and colors that fit your style, no matter if you select single or double-flowered varieties. Begonias are an excellent alternative to other exotic houseplants since they bloom continuously during the growing season. They require no special care, besides watering every two weeks.
The genus Begonia is made up of more than 2,000 species of plants, many with colorful flowers and leaves. The majority of them are native to the tropical regions, but certain species can thrive in cooler climates.
Tuberous begonias, such as the popular "Non-Stop" series are great for shady areas and outdoor containers. These begonias with frost tolerance grow from tubers that are oval or round, and have a strong growth habit. To grow well they require bright sunlight with a little shade. However, they won't flower in very dense shade or in areas with direct, hot sunlight. Wax begonias can withstand full sun, but they will burn quickly in hot weather.
Most begonias do not need deadheading, but they may benefit from fall and spring pruning to encourage new growth. They also thrive in rich, loose soil. This could be a mixture with organic material, or a light, loamy mix containing slow-release fertilizer.
If you wish to reproduce begonias in a shallow tray place the tubers with the hollow side up 6 to 8 inches apart in a moist potting solution. Keep the mix moist but not soggy, and place the tray in a dark space. They should begin to sprout within 4 weeks, and can be moved to a place with a bright light source when they're about an inch tall. When they are ready to plant outside, wait until there isn't any risk of frost. You can also start begonias from seeds or plant wax begonias in transplants. These are available at garden centers and greenhouses.
Anthurium
Anthurium, also referred to as tail flower and flamingo flower It adds a exotic tropical addition to any room that is brightly lit. It's easy to care for and produces flowers all year long. Originally an epiphyte plant that is found on the surface of other plants, or in the air, anthuriums are durable and long-lasting houseplants.
The anthurium's "flower" is actually a spathe, a protective layer that covers a tiny, real flower within. The flowers last a few weeks and come in a variety of colors like orange-red, pink or white. The vibrant anthurium is a favorite as a hostess present and is often used in wedding bouquets on Hawaiian and Pacific Islands.
Anthurium is a part of the large genus Araceae which includes more than 1,000 flowering plants. house plants names are well-known, such as the hibiscus and poinsettia. Some are not as well-known, like the tulip trees and the Arum palm.
While it's possible to grow anthuriums from seeds it can take up to four years before you can see any blooms. You can see faster results by cutting anthuriums of mature plants. Look for an established anthurium that has compacted roots and appears ready to be divided. Use a clean, dry knife to cut off a small portion of the plant. Be cautious not to damage the roots.
A freshly cut anthurium can be transplanted to a pot that is slightly moist vermiculite. Place the cuttings in a place that receives bright indirect light and stays at 70F. If necessary mist the soil and the plant frequently and run a humidity device close to it. Apply regular fertilizer to the anthurium, though don't apply too much since it burns the roots.
Repot anthuriums at a minimum every two years or if the root ball is too large for the container. Choose a pot 20% bigger than the anthurium's current one to reduce shock.
Spray diluted soap on the leaves of your anthurium, then wipe them with a damp cloth. This helps the plant breathe and restores its pretty sheen. Spider mites can cause anthuriums to suffer but a pesticide is able to prevent this.
Coconut Palm
Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera) is an exotic plant that is cultivated extensively around the world for its edible fruit. It is one of the most important and widely used agricultural plants in the tropics and probably originated somewhere in Indo-Malaya. The wood from the trunk can be used to build huts and bridges. The fibres that are formed from shells or husks are used to create ropes. tall houseplants is a drupe, not an actual nut.
When the seeds produce an audible sloshing noise when shaken they are ready to be planted. The seeds are then laid on their sides, with the three eyes slightly angled upwards and then buried in soil until about half the thickness of the hard shell. Germination can take a long time, but can be enhanced by high temperatures and high humidity. After six months, the roots and shoots are ready for transplantation.
The plant is ideally designed for warm climates. It is tolerant of frost but should not exposed to temperatures below freezing as it may be damaged. It requires plenty of sun, a sheltered position and a soil that is well-drained. Regular watering is required but the soil must not be submerged. Fertilizing with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer essential.
During the spring the palms produce fragrant, sweet-smelling flowers on a few branched stalks which grow male and female coconuts. The flowers are protandrous and male flowers open before the females. The winds pollinate the flowers. After 4-6 years the tree will begin bearing fruit.
For indoor cultivation, it is recommended to plant this exotic houseplant in a pot that has a rich, well-drained soil. It likes a sunny location, but can be tolerant of low light. Repot the plant when it grows in a pot larger than its roots. Make sure to water it thoroughly and feed the plant regularly with an liquid fertilizer. The Coconut Palm is generally pest-free, but it can be affected by a condition known as lethal yellowing for which there is no cure and which can cause death to the plant.
