A seizure alert monitor is a device that can help you get emergency help if you have a seizure. These devices can notify caregivers or family members when they are needed, using alarms, phone calls and text messages.
How It Works
A seizure monitor detects signs of a seizure through changes in your heart rate, movement and muscle activity. These signals are sent to a base station and then sent to the people who need to know.
The device must have high detection sensitivity and low false alarm rates (FAR) to be useful for patients and physicians. Ideally, the FAR must be below one false alarm per day for patients with few seizures, or less than two per day for patients with several seizures.
How To Use It
A seizure monitoring device consists of an armband that is worn close to the body and closely monitors your heart rate, movements and other signs that may indicate you are having a seizure. When a possible convulsive seizure is detected, the armband sends a message to your carer.

The SAMi device uses advanced motion-detecting methods to reduce false alarms. It also allows you to record your movements and timestamp them.
