Seizures are electrical activity in the brain that results in loss of consciousness, changes in behavior and a variety of other symptoms. They can be life threatening, so it's important to know how to treat them.
There are many different types of seizures, but the most common are tonic and clonic seizures. These occur when the brain's electrical activity causes stiffening and shaking of the muscles, followed by a sudden loss of consciousness. Usually, tonic clonic attacks are short and are followed by a headache.

Tonic-clonic seizures are usually diagnosed with electroencephalography (EEG). EEG is a type of test that can show the area in the brain where the seizures are starting.
Because seizures are not always caused by a medical condition, they are often treated with medicines. However, some of the medications may take several tries before the right dose is found.
