Several visits from renown (inter-)national scholars, academics from partner universities and PhD students are already in planning for 2015. There was an admission that all the teams are involved in a complicated negotiation with the rights-holders and the FIA, a tripartite, international deal that could rival Brexit for technical specification. It will take time and may go down to the wire – but Wolff wants it done.

From new driver pairings to the title race between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, there was certainly a lot to unpack. We found that F1 fans used exaggerated language such as epic, insane and crazy to describe the action taking place on Drive to Survive. In this case, we ran a social media listening data search for mentions of ‘F1’ and ‘Netflix’, or ‘Drive to Survive’ over the past year and uploaded this data to Relative Insight. We compared social conversations to our database of standard English, which represents regular word usage. This type of analysis will highlight which words, phrases, topics and emotions are over indexing in conversations, helping us to uncover key themes and opinions around the Netflix hit. Relative Insight Explore helps brands and agencies get under the skin of their target audience, providing an effective way to quickly analyse huge amounts of text data in minimal time.

This event features a range of illustrated talks and practical exercises for years 10, 11, 12 and 13 students interested in forensic science. In Kairos’ recent ‘Planning Excellence’ webinar, Joe Schmitt, Director of Rugby and High Performance at World Rugby, told viewers ‘the better your planning the more pressure you take out of your own week, and it’s the same for the players’. Highlighting that clear communication and scheduling to players is critical to achieving high performance. Schmitt wanted his players to have clarity on the training week so they could focus on performing at their best. Our students regularly engage with motorsport practitioners through group design and individual project work supported by industry.

Those of us who were in attendance for the Third Circuit oral argument are divided. My skepticism is not based on the law; rather, my sense that the Third Circuit may be reluctant to open the floodgates for unregulated sports betting at gambling venues nationwide. Cynicism aside, I believe that New Jersey may hold the upper hand based on what unfolded at the oral argument. In contrast to the lower court, which was concerned with the far-reaching implications of other states following New Jersey's blueprint (and thereby potentially weakening PASPA), the Third Circuit strongly signaled that principles of statutory interpretation would dictate the outcome.
Group design projects (GDPs) are an important element within our Motorsport MSc courses. The GDP is an applied, multidisciplinary, team-based activity, providing students with the opportunity to apply principles taught during their MSc courses. With support from the Motorsport Steering Committee and wider industry community, Cranfield’s GDPs provide MSc students with experience of working on real challenges which the motorsport sector faces now and in the future. The main conference enabled me to learn about current issues and trends in the field of sports management, thus providing me with useful information that I will utilise in my final year.
