Earl came on stage at 9:45 to sing "Molasses" in his debut Doris and the audience sang the lyrics in a rhythmic way that only people who have been listening to it since childhood are able to do. Earl smiled and praised them for being able to keep pace with him, and it appeared that he was really intent on it.





The Alchemist-produced album starts with "Old Friend" which is a musing on his experience with Odd Future, a group consisting of singers, rappers DJs and producers that seemed to be on the verge of becoming hip-hop's newest vanguard (Tyler, the Creator, Frank Ocean and the Internet were all household names following their the group's departure). He seems to be nostalgic for a group that's been relegated to only a few scattered members.





Earl's rapping does not focus on self-pity and more on the process of artistic renewal. He tries to break free of his past, not go back to it. The ambient screams of music suit his slower rhythmic pace. In their free-spirited, breezy music, the title track's references are almost a satire "Iceberg MAC kinda thin/What they could not see sinking the ship/Capsize indicates you're a Flip."





The ten-song SICK! isn't full of features, and the album ends with Earl confronting his mother, who has been recently accused of abuse by children in Samoa. It's a touching and inspiring end to a record that appears to have been influenced by the world around it, despite the fact that all Earl is suffering from is Coronavirus.
