NPR published an article about a brand new craze that is taking over the nation: "Let’s Go Brandon." The whole thing began at an NASCAR event last month, where driver Brandon Brown was interviewed by the NBC's Kelli Stavast, after winning his first Xfinity Series. Stavast can be heard reading from a crowd of fans shouting "F--- Joe Biden." The f-word quickly spread online as well as on signs and T-shirts all over the country.
In the days since it was first reported, the story has spread throughout Congress as well. Bill Posey, a Republican Representative from Florida, ended his House floor speech by fist-pushing and shouting "Let's Go Brandon!" And South Carolina Republican Rep. Jeff Duncan shared a photo of him wearing the "Let's Go Brandon" face mask at the Capitol.
Let's Go Brandon Cowboy Hat says this is a meme that's simple to create and spread. Stall says, while it's not as sharp as "F Joe Biden," the meme is still an expression of the same sentiment. Many conservative groups have adopted this meme.
While some have tried to make money off of the meme through selling hats, it's not as popular as other memes about the president like "covfefe." But Stall isn't worried that it will go away. "It's more easy to forget an idea or a slogan than it is to remember the words that come out of your mouths," he says.
