The provider offers tele-conference based consultations to fee-paying as well as some NHS patients. This includes prescriptions and assessments.
Medical students were recruited from BSMS, King's College London and Bristol Medical School. Nine students participated in semi-structured one-on-one interviews.
Many factors were identified as having a positive impact on the interest in psychiatry. They included meeting psychiatrists viewed as role models, observing working in a team environment, and seeing a difference in patients' lives.
What can we expect?
Students are expected to acquire work experience in fields relevant to their chosen profession regardless of whether it is paid or not. You may be asked to observe a doctor or work in psychiatry. This shows commitment to the field and can help you gain insight into the physical and psychological demands of a job in medicine. Many students in psychiatry serve as junior doctors in other healthcare disciplines such as surgery or medicine to build their abilities.
During the Foundation Training, which is common to all medical students, you can select a psychiatry course. You may also participate in psychiatry sampler week, hosted by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. After you have completed your Foundation Year, you will move on to specialty and core training.
Psychiatrists are trained to assess and management of patients with a wide range of disorders of the psyche. They can identify these disorders and treat them through medication, psychotherapy, or a combination. Psychologists use their expertise in psychological, biological and social sciences to identify the cause and the root of mental health problems. They will be employed by the NHS in various settings such as hospitals and prisons, community care, and residential homes.
After completing their training, a psychiatrist will be registered with the RCPsych as an Associate Specialist and be eligible to apply to a consultant position. Psychiatrists are still able to treat patients in their regular clinics but they will also be given additional managerial responsibilities, such as managing multidisciplinary teams, training and research activities.
Psychiatrists may specialize in specific sub-fields of psychiatry, for instance liaison psychiatry, rehabilitation psychiatry or eating disorder psychiatry. They can also focus on a specific age group, such as children and adolescents or older age psychotherapy. They can also get involved in academic psychiatry and undertake research into the biological, sociological or psychological aspects of the field. All health professionals including psychiatrists are required to maintain their professional development. They can gain knowledge by attending conferences, meetings and courses, or through research and peer-reviewing of articles.
Your first appointment
The first appointment is usually around 1-1.5 hours long, and you will be asked to complete an assessment. Bring as much information as you can as the psychiatrist needs to hear your story so that they can form an opinion. You will be asked for any medical background or family health.
The psychiatrist will review your condition and refer you to further tests to determine a diagnosis. You will then be offered an assessment of your medication if needed. This is a discussion between you and your psychiatrist to determine if your current medication can be optimised.

It has faculties for all of the psychiatric specialties and sub-specialties and organizes international congresses. In addition, RCPsych members undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. Your second appointment
During the second appointment your psychiatrist will conduct a structured medical examination of your mental health. This will include a comprehensive psychosis review as well as a complete review (if you are taking any medication) of your medications. They will also look at other conditions that might be present in conjunction with or instead of ADHD. The assessment session will last 50 minutes via video call.
We are aware that some aspects of the examination can be triggering and sensitive. It is not the intention of our clinicians to pressurize you to discuss things you aren't comfortable with. Please add a note in your portal before your assessment appointment If you are not willing to discuss a certain area. This will inform your doctor.
After a successful titration of your medication and when you and your nurse agree that you're stable you'll be transferred over to NHS GP Care under a shared-care agreement. After this, you are transferred back to NHS fees for your monthly prescription, however, you pay a one-time annual appointment fee to P-UK to see your consultant which is a bargain!
Your third appointment
Psychiatry UK provides online consultations by tele-conference with psychiatrists to fee-paying patients and some NHS patients. These appointments may include assessments, prescriptions and medication reviews. The service is well led and has effective systems and processes in place to assess, monitor and improve the quality of its services. The service has responded quickly to any issues that were identified during our inspection.
During the appointment the psychiatrist will ask you questions about your medical history and symptoms. They may also inquire about your family and relationships. This is to get a better picture of the entire person and their current situation. The psychiatrist will then formulate an assessment and prescribe treatment.
The next appointment will usually be the review of your current treatment plan. The psychiatrist will review any new symptoms or changes that have happened since your last visit. They may suggest a different medication or change the dosage. They will also consider the way your current medications are working and whether they're causing any adverse effects.
The psychiatrist will write the report following your appointment. This will be sent to you and any other health professional you choose to consult with. The psychiatrist will also write a prescription for your medication if necessary. The prescription can be obtained at your local pharmacy or online. The cost of medication can be high and it's best to look around for the lowest price.
Psychiatrists are doctors who specialize in treating mental health conditions. They can serve as consultants in hospitals or private practitioners. They may also conduct research and teach other doctors. Psychiatrists must be able to pass a series of written and clinical tests to be qualified. After graduation, they are awarded an official certificate of Completion of Training. They can then practice medicine in the UK. There are two routes to full GMC registration for medical graduates who are international - the Royal College or PLAB route. IMG Connect has a number of guides and resources for international doctors looking to pass the MRCPsych exam. The MRCPsych exam is a key step towards becoming a consultant psychiatrist in the UK.
