Amon amarth - the behemoths of melodic death metal roar with unrelenting power in their 12th studio album , 'The Great Heathen Army', their first release in five years. This album is full of epics with a roar and metal anthems that are heart-pounding. Their Nordic battle cries are legendary and reach in lands far beyond their own.


The group was formed under the name Scum in 1992, but they discarded their debut album as inexperienced. It was however a strong enough teaser to convince cult Swedish label Metal Blade to take a chance on the band, and soon they were moving towards the heights of music. They changed their name to Amon Amarth and set about making a sound distinctly their own whilst still following the melodic death metal style that was popular at the time. Their lyrics were centered on Viking mythology and history, and their live performances are spectacular, bringing the stage a complete Viking ship on stage.


Amon Amarth quickly became a favorite with the masses and soon were playing at the top of major European festival. The band's ebullient melodies are enhanced by a brutal live performance that makes the fans swarm around their bells in the most ferocious manner. The massive metal band has been the mainstay of the Wacken Open Air bill since 1998. Their acclaim has only grown since the release of each album.


The five-piece has scored many masterstrokes on their releases including "Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds' (EP) (1996), 'Once Sent From the Golden Hall' (1998) as well as 'The Avenger' (1999) as well as 'The Crusher' (2002) and 'Versus the World' (2004). Their 10th studio album "Jomsviking" was released in March 2016 and saw the hiring of session drummer Tobias Gustafsson from Vomitory.



The band is currently on tour with their 12th album 'The Great Heathen Army.' Their powerful live performances are something to be seen.
