Hirsch said that after the show ended after two seasons, he was happy with the story he had told and decided to close the show. gravityfallsmerch has been vocal on occasion about the scathing criticisms he received from Disney's Standards and Practices department. The department is responsible to ensure that programming conforms to moral, ethical, and legally binding standards.
Hirsch stated in a 2017 interview in a 2017 interview that Gravity Falls, being a Disney property, would not get the same type of merchandising promotion like other Disney properties. This is a shame, since the show has a loyal fan base who love the merchandise.
