Amon Amarth's uncompromisingly heavy Viking Metal is making waves in a world which has seen thrash and pop punk fall out of the spotlight. After gaining a hefty fanbase by bringing their rumbling live show to arenas around the globe, Amon Amarth's latest release is proof that they're not slowing down. The Great Heathen Army is the band's masterpiece of apocalypse. From the blood-soaked rumble that is opener lfur to the powerful squall of the title track, every track is infused with the essence of Norse mythology.
AMON AMARTH
The band formed in 1992 as Scum, a grind metal act whose demo was dismissed by their record label. They didn't give up, however they rebranded themselves as Amon Amarth was a success. Amon Amarth Greeting Card took notice of them shortly after the release of a second EP. Their debut album of 1998, "Once sent from the Golden Hall", cemented Amon Amarth's place in the metal scene.
It's been a position they've held ever since, with their albums receiving acclaim from all over the world. The next two albums, "Versus The World" and "Fate Of Norns" have only confirmed their position as one of the most promising bands in melodic death metal.
AMON AMARTH
The band took a bold step in 2008 by signing with the renowned producer Jens Borgrn. They produced epic anthems like Heidrun, and Put Your Back in the Oar. This song inspired Amon Amarth's most loved traditions: the audience joining in on the chorus. The band was open to new musical concepts on The Unholy Alliance (2011), where they played alongside Slayer Trivium Mastodon.
Amon Amarth's future looks more bright than ever due to the new metalhead generation. Amon Amarth's current tour offers an impressive display of the force and power of metal. Being able to see them live is a real treat for any metalhead.
