However, there are a number of resources available that can help you get one at no cost or low-cost. These resources include Veteran Affairs (VA) benefits, local hospitals or medical providers, local non-profits and senior assistance agencies.
Some Medicare Advantage Plans, also called Part C, will pay for the purchase of a personal emergency response system. You can check with your Medicare Advantage plan to see if they offer this benefit, and then contact the company's Member Services department for more information.
Medicaid Waiver
If you are a recipient of Medicaid, you may qualify for a waiver to cover the cost of a PERS. To obtain a waiver, you must speak with your case worker or your local Area Agency on Aging.
Long-Term Care Insurance
Some long-term care insurance policies will help cover the cost of a medical alert system, but you may need a doctor's prescription or referral to qualify for this benefit. You can also shop around for discounts through your membership to groups or banks you are affiliated with.
