Superman Names the Justice League Hero He Thinks Could Still Turn Evil
This early form of Superman is very cheesy and a product of the time, but fans should check it out to see his humble big-screen beginnings. Superman first appeared outside the comics in 1941 with the famous Max Fleischer cartoons, and seven years later he made his live-action debut with Superman. Like Batman, Superman's first live-action appearance was in a 15-part serial released in weekly theatrical episodes. The titular hero is played by Kirk Alyn, who went uncredited; to maintain the illusion of Superman, Superman was credited as himself in the film.

Batman is one of the most heroic characters in the Justice League — if not in comics as a whole — and he has risked his life numerous times to save everyone. But there's no denying that Batman is a bit of a control freak, and Superman Jon Kent knows that if any hero is going to take control of the entire world, it's likely to be Batman. Like Son Goku and Usagi, this Clark’s klutzy dopiness isn’t really a bit — it’s a core part of who he is in the same way that his strange superpowers and compulsion to help people are. The film disappointed many fans, although, over time, it has gained more and more fans. The biggest complaint is the fact that the film feels more like a feature-length post-credits scene than its own movie. “Superman’s Pal, Sid Sharp,” an episode of the vastly underrated anthology cartoon Justice League Action, goes a little further, giving us a rival Daily Planet journalist named Sid (voiced with appropriate discontent by Jon Lovitz) who isn’t impressed with Clark’s “simple boy from Kansas” routine. Superman can’t be a paragon of benevolence for absolutely everyone, and this episode takes us into the life of someone who sees him less as the hero of Metropolis and more like a bizarre dude that always lands on the front page. It’s easy to take Superman’s more “normal” world for granted when his super-powered exploits are so vast, but episodes like “Superman’s Pal, Sid Sharp” show that he doesn’t exist in a Lex Luthor-shaped vacuum.
