The North Dakota Department of Insurance is the only State agency that has regulatory authority over the insurance businesses. The Department of Insurance regulates the insurance industry within the State, licenses insurance practitioners in the State, provides consumers with information about insurance coverage, and responds to consumer complaints about insurance providers.
The current Insurance commissioner is Jon Godfread who has been elected in June of 2020. Godfread's first term as commissioner was up until March 2020 and he was appointed by Governor Tim Pawlenty. His second term runs until June of 2020 and he was re-elected for a third term last month.
The Department of Insurance administers several programs designed to promote and increase the safety and security of people and property. One of these programs, Public Insurance, is available for all drivers, as well as those driving through schools. It requires all drivers to carry insurance coverage while operating a vehicle on public roads in North Dakota. linkedin provided by this program is not required by the State of North Dakota, but is recommended by NCDOT as a safety measure.
Another program offered by the Department of Insurance is the NPDES System. This program allows drivers and non-drivers alike to access certain toll and traffic data, including speed limit, road construction, police and highway reporting, and more.
The Department of Insurance also offers coverage to consumers who live in rural areas and are not served by a local insurance provider. Rural insurance buyers can purchase their own insurance coverage, but may not have access to services like Public Insurance offered by the State Department of Insurance. The State Department of Insurance does not regulate Rural insurance in North Dakota.
The Department of Insurance also offers information about several other insurance related services. The Insurance Information Institute publishes a report which is a resource to help consumers understand the coverage and rules of auto insurance. A guidebook called Driving Safely in Your Car: Know Your Car Insurance Policy details the rules, and information about how to purchase car insurance in North Dakota.
Consumers should contact the Department of Insurance if they suspect they may have been victimized by fraud. If you feel you have been victims of fraud, contact your State Senator or Representative.

There is also a toll free number that can be used to contact the Department of Insurance regarding questions about claims. This number is toll free for the State of North Dakota and toll free for all other counties in North Dakota.
The Department of Insurance provides a web site on which you can obtain information about policies that are in effect in the state of North Dakota. This site also contains information on the types of coverage that are offered, and how much each policy will cost. as well as how you can apply for the policy and pay your premium.
The Department of Insurance also provides information on its consumer protection section about the use and benefits of liability insurance, home security insurance and personal injury and accident insurance. In addition, the department also provides information on how you can make a claim for medical expenses that were caused by a motorist's negligence. The Department also publishes publications to inform motorists about the laws and regulations pertaining to insurance.
The Department of Insurance is responsible for collecting the fees from insurance companies that are insured by them. linkedin use the fee money to provide the public with information on what is covered under each type of insurance coverage.
