I studied International Business at City U University Hong Kong and the modules I chose were management, marketing, performance management and compensation, strategic management and persuasion in everyday life. The Hong Kong education system is very different to UK with the Hong Kong system being a lot more interactive and engaging (in my personal opinion). My favorite module was strategic decision making. Each week I had x1 three-hour lecture and x1 one hour tutorial. I liked this approach to learning as the content covered in the lecture was then discussed later that week in a tutorial in more depth and applied to the real-life world. The tutorials (in both strategic management and my other modules) used a lot of relevant case studies. It felt as if I was really learning about real life business and not just theory that I had to use to do well in an exam. However, although I really enjoyed about learning from a whole new perspective, I struggled with the amount of group work/ projects I had to do. Each module had a group project that was weighted from anywhere between 30-50%. This does make the end of year exam less pressure. But I found that I had to put in a lot of extra work into my group projects to get them up to the standard that I was happy with and willing to submit (not all my teammates worked hard enough on these projects and pulled their weight). Finally in terms of academic support, my lecturers were incredibly supportive. I was the only exchange student in all my classes. This was quite daunting but definitely made me a lot more confident in the end. I built a good rapport with my lecturers and often emailed them if I had any questions, and they were always more than happy to help.
