Quiz: How Much Do You Know About Double Glazing Repairs Lambeth?
Lambeth Windows

Lambeth windows can be described as a type of sash window. They are constructed of timber and their design is determined by the architectural characteristics and style of the building. The sash windows at St Margaret's Church, Lambeth, Kent, have a simple, symmetrical design with the central panel constructed of stained glass.

The Window of Pedlar

The Pedlar's Windows is a little misleading since the pedlar was not a real one, but a 17th-century pedlar. Henry Smith was his name. He was, in reality one of the most generous donors. One good example of this is his charitable contributions. The current County Hall inherited his lands.

Despite his generosity, the Pedlar was not the first person to be a part of the halls of St Mary's Church. It was not so in the 13th or 14th century. In fact one local priest provided shelter for the Pedlar of Swaffham. When he was living a comfortable enough life, he pledged to donate land to the church. If everything went well, he would even lend his hand if needed.

The Pedlar's Window is one of the most durable products. In 1500 the first stained glass window was built. It was eventually replaced in mid-19th century. Sadly, its original glass was destroyed during a World War II bombing raid. Since then the window has been kept via donations, gifts and even a small office of its own.

There are many other attractions in the Lambeth region that aren't as well-known , but more famous. The most well-known of them are Lambeth Abbey, St James Park, and St Luke's Cathedral. They are all worth a visit however if you're looking for something a little less obvious, you could do worse than visit St Mary's Church or Pedlar's Park. Just outside the city's central area it is a great place to soak up some greenery, a touch of history and a touch of awe. The Salamanca open space is named in honor of the 1812 Battle of Salamanca in Spain It is also situated in the Pedlar's Park.

King's College Chapel

The King's College Chapel has an impressive collection of medieval stained glass windows. Some of these are particularly remarkable. One window shows the Crucifixion spread across three lights.

The northern Renaissance style reached its apogee in the windows of the King's College Chapel. It could be attributed to Sir Christopher Wren, the great architect. Each side of the chapel has twelve large windows. These windows are mostly composed of scenes from both the Old and New Testament.

The west window of the nave is the biggest field of glass painted in the church. It is also among the most striking. In addition to displaying the Crucifixion, it is an important window.

The window was donated by Francis Stacey, a King's Alumnus. Daniel Hyde is currently the director of the music of this choir. He has been the director of the choir since 1982.

The north wall is decorated with figures from the Old and New Testament. The four Gospel writers are situated on the north wall as are Mary the mother of our Lord and Moses and Aaron.

Other windows of significance are located in the ante-chapel. The Rood screen displays biblical scenes, with images showing King Solomon and an adorable young girl in silhouette. A screen was built in Westminster Abbey during Henry VII and the reign of Henry VIII. The interlocking H's and HR's are symbolic.

A second window, dating from the 18th century's beginning, was commissioned by Bishop John Russell of Lincoln. This window is considered to be the only one of its kind. Another one, in Stamford St. Martin's Church was also commissioned.

Although certain other Lambeth windows in the King's College Chapel Chapel were destroyed during the Second World War it appears that the original glass has survived.

St. Margaret's

St Margaret's Cathedral is a Gothic building located in Lambeth, England. It has a large tower that is visible near Parliament Square. It was rebuilt between 1499 and 1500. upvc window repair lambeth is divided into 20 windows and the Clerestory.

The east window of the church's chapel has pre-Reformation glass. The window is dated to c.1525. Hunt's window depicts a crucifixion , as well as the Cross that is spread across three lights. It is part of the northern Renaissance style.

Robert Hunt's window is one of the finest in the city. His window was installed during the reconstruction of St Margaret's Cathedral. He may not have been the sole donor. The glass and transportation might have been financed by other donors.

The dates of the Lambeth windows are not known, however they aren't the first to have been coated with glazes in England. There are a few mentions in the accounts of churchwardens. Hunt may have had the idea of appointing the glaziers. It is possible that they were working in partnership with other donors.

Hunt's window is a wonderful example of the personalization of the church in the latter half of medieval England. The images are a blend of stories and texts from both the Old Testament and New Testaments. Hunt and his family are depicted.

The images also feature 12 named saints. Some saints are easy to identify but others are not popular. Hunt's personal preferences aside, the imagery represents Hunt's devotional beliefs.

Hunt's window was found in the churchwardens ' accounts of 1500. It is impossible to know his intentions and purpose. His will nevertheless offers a rationale for the absence of mentions of glaziers in parish records. The will also suggests that glazing in late medieval parishes might have been financed by individuals, not corporations.
