Man Down Detector is a new feature for a mobile app that helps ensure your lone workers stay safer. man down alarm The feature uses existing smartphone technology to monitor a lone worker’s movement and notify their preset emergency contacts if they haven’t moved for a set time, typically between 3 minutes to 1 hour.

It’s a simple way to help keep your lone workers safe.

The alarm will SMS/Text an alert message to your emergency contacts mobile phones and sends their location via Google Maps if they are unable to respond to the alarm manually. Simultaneously, the device will start dialing predefined emergency contact phone numbers to try and establish voice communication.

A fall from height remains the most common cause of workplace fatalities and injuries in the UK, with 29 deaths caused by falls and impacts in 2020. Employers are legally required to minimise the risk of fall incidents by providing appropriate safety equipment, training and putting in place adequate procedures for reporting and dealing with accidents involving falls.

In order to meet this requirement a fall detection system should be able to detect a fall or impact and automatically send a fall alert to an individual. This is achieved by a sensor that detects device movement and non-movement and automatically launches an alert based on the device’s predefined man down settings.

To enhance this detection a 'Motion Reset' feature can be used to reset the Man Down detector if the device/user is still moving enough. This is especially useful for users who spend a significant amount of time in the man down position such as when inspecting or working at heights.
