Notes - notes.io

1. The topic that most interests me about WW1 is the conflict between France and Germany. This reason for this is because of the close location of France to us. When I compare the success of modern day France economically and politically to the early 20th centuary, it is difficult to imagine that France was once engaged in the very first 'Great War'. As I already know a lot of information about the second world war from my study in English of the book 'Adolphus Tips' it would be great to learn about the battles of WW1, where there was limited weapon technology (like bayonettes) used in the trenches unlike in ww2.
2. I believe I would make a good representative as I have already represented the school on many occasions, in events like open evening. I am also a sensible student and am respectful of rules. I am a form representative in addition to being a member of the curriculum council. I am good at public speaking, so would be happy to attend any assemblies to talk about my experiences on the trip if I was given the opportunity to represent Collingwood.
3. I am very interested in history therefore I want to go on this trip to expand my knowledge of WW1 so that I can apply it to my learning because it will help me with my studies. My dad used to be in the Army, and whilst he has described to me what it is like in a warzone, I would love to experience the atmosphere of somewhere where an important historical event took place first hand as it would be primary research. I would also appreciate the opportunity to go travel there as I have not been fortunate enough to visit these places. In particular, I have always wanted to go to Belgium (I have heard it produces some excellent chocolate!).
4. I understxzand that this trip is not only about remembering the battles of WW1, but also about reminding everyone about the significance of the battles which took place in these locations. I would like to help organise more educational visits to museums, as we are lucky to be very close to London, where there are many museums. However, realistically, I understand that this is very difficult to organise so I think it would be a good idea to organise more in school activities which are engaging such as guest talks from Hitsorians during Enterprize days. Like I have already mentioned, I enjoy giving public speeches so I am happy to share my experience with my fellow peers or write a report if I am selected for this trip.
