Man Down Safety
With slips, trips and falls causing 53% of all non-fatal injuries, Man Down systems are essential for any company working on-site or away from a fixed work base. They can be particularly useful for lone workers, who may be unable to alert someone if they fall and are knocked unconscious or unable to make a phone call.
Man Down alarms detect changes in position, lack of movement or sudden impact – and send an alert to a responder as soon as they happen. This enables monitoring personnel to get to the lone worker in as little as 3 minutes.
How it works
Using a mobile app or wearable technology, Man Down detection algorithms detect the worker’s movements within a set period of time (usually between 3 minutes and 1 hour). If no movement is detected during this time, an alarm will sound to the employee to check in.
The alarm is then sent to a monitor team who follow the escalation procedure that the employee has set up and send help directly to the worker’s location. This speed of response is critical in a serious accident.
The Man Down function can also be integrated into a two-way radio which emits a tone at regular intervals and requires the lone worker to respond by pressing the PTT button within the preset timeframe. The TP8100 is one of the few radios to offer this functionality. Lone Worker Devices Its optional GPS speaker microphone fixes the worker’s exact location, enabling the nearest GPS-enabled workers to be directed to the area and provide assistance.
