West African countries include Benin, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. The African Transition Zone cuts through the northern part of this subregion. The land in the African Transition Zone changes from deserts to a tropical savanna. All of the countries of West Africa, except Cape Verde, have part of their territory in the Transition Zone. The northern border of West Africa is the Sahara.West Africa is largely a tropical region with a landscape that includes desert, shoreline, low plains, highlands, and rain forests
