If you’re a fan of Matt Damon and/or Ben Affleck, then you’re probably acquainted with Air, the 2023 film that tells the true story behind one of Nike’s most historic shoe offers. Directed by Affleck and written by Alex Convery, the sports biopic stars Damon as Sonny Vaccaro, the Nike employee who helped land a deal with up-and-coming NBA superstar Michael Jordan. The movie also stars Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina and Viola Davis.
The story begins in 1984, when Nike’s basketball division is on the verge of being shut down. The company is trailing badly behind their competitors Adidas and Converse, and the scouting staff led by Vaccaro (Damon) has little luck in finding talented players. Then, he comes throughout a raw rookie named Michael Jordan who could probably be the company’s savior.
