Inside Parliament:
The primary law-making body in the UK is Parliament, which consists of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Laws, also known as statutes, are created through a structured process. An MP initiates the process by introducing a Bill in the House of Commons.
The Bill undergoes a series of readings and debates in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
It then receives Royal Assent from the monarch, marking the formal approval of the law. This process typically takes around 6 weeks.
Outside Parliament:
While Parliament is the primary law-making body, other entities can influence and shape the law.
The Executive branch, led by the Prime Minister and Cabinet, plays a role in proposing and implementing laws.
The Judiciary, consisting of judges in the courts of law, interprets and applies the law but cannot create new laws. They ensure the law aligns with the constitution.
