There is a 53 year old man in North Carolina who killed himself because the main character in the new Star Wars movie is played by a black person. A news article, "Racist Republicans Crusade To Keep Dr. Martin Luther King’s Dream Unfulfilled." Another article, "Racism in Maine schools or just ‘kids being kids’?" These are all examples of how, even 47 years after Martin Luther King Jr.'s death, we stil haven't made much progress.
Those were just news examples of racism, but let's move on to media examples. The Oscars have had no people of color nominated for two years in a row, and people have started using the hashtag "#OscarsSoWhite" when making social media posts about it. Confederate flags are more popular now than ever before, even being used to decorate toilet paper and phone cases. Newscasters are constantly making comments when speaking about or to people of color. In the most recent Democratic debate, systemic racism was a major topic discussed, and people somehow think that they can blame literally anything on Obama, like "You see that dead racoon on the side of the road it's stripes are thee same color as Obama's hair, he must be the reason it's there, how dare he stink up our roads," it's honestly ridiculous what these people will use him as a scapegoat for.
Now moving on to an even larger platform for racism, social media. Okay so this is what I did to get examples for this paragraph. I went on Tumble, a social media website, and typed "racism" into the search bar. The first thing was a link to an article about a woman who was chased by six KKK members while the Chicago policed watched and did nothing. Now to back this claim up, there are testimonies and video proof. The next few things I see are MLF Jr. quotes until I come across a message an anonymous person left for an African American girl telling her to go back to her own county, to which she responded by stating she was born in the United States. That response received several likes and responses supporting the girl. My main point here is that someone shouldn't even think about that message because it is racist and inhumane. One of the next things I see are more examples of the "#OscarsSoWhite" tag, which is very popular on Twitter, another social media website. The last thing I see before I quit are two pie charts depicting the people who believe in racism, white people 23% and black people 77%, and people who experience racism, black people 100%.
