This History Behind Over-Ear Headphones Will Haunt You For The Rest Of Your Life!
Best Over-Ear Headphones

Over-ear headphones typically have more battery life than earbuds. They also have superior noise cancellation.

Sony's WH-1000XM5s are the top choice for over-ear wireless headphones. They sound fantastic with a deep, bass-heavy sound quality that allows vocals and instruments to shine. They can last for over 40 hours on a single charge with active noise cancellation (ANC) turned on.

Focal Bathys Wireless

The Focal Bathys Wireless are an audiophile-grade entry in the growing premium travel-focused Bluetooth headphone market, a category long dominating by Bose and Sony products. Focal's reputation for making the most high-quality speakers available meant that it was unable to cut back to compete. It decided to design its own earbuds with built-in ANC made of the same amplifiers, transducers and other components that are in its flagship products.

The result is an earbud that is top-of-the-line in performance but also feels luxurious and robust. Focal reduced the size and weight of its more expensive headphones to make them lighter and more portable but still utilizing magnesium for the yokes. The design is sleek and stylish, with a a circular, "skeletonised", design similar to Focal's high-end Focal celestee headphones. LED backlit Focal logos are located on the side of the headphone and actually glow.

When connected to your device, they operate with the latest Bluetooth v5.1 technology that supports for SBC, AAC, aptX, and aptX Adaptive and an inbuilt DAC that supports up to 24 bits/192kHz playback. The earcups can be folded flat for simple storage. The cable can also be dismantled to be used with devices that don't have Bluetooth, such as many cell phones.

For those who are serious about audio The headphones can be used in DAC mode, which bypasses internal processing and provides better sound quality than Bluetooth headphones with their built-in DAC. Focal declined to reveal the specific DAC they used, but when tested with a high-quality portable DAC/headphone amp, the Bathys delivered great results--including better-than-CD-quality resolution, tight bass, and an open, airy midrange.

The Focal Bathys are made to be utilized on planes as well as in other noisy environments however, the DAC mode allows for focused listening. The Bathys are an excellent alternative to closed-back headphones, which are tuned for bass. A pair of these headphones would be a wonderful present for the audiophile on your list.

JBL Tune 760NC

The JBL Tune-760NC is lightweight, comfortable pair of headphones with active noise cancellation. They offer a deep bass profile that adds depth to your music, and they have long battery life for listening sessions. They're also built to last, which makes them perfect for use on commutes and trips. However their tight fit may make uncomfortable for long listening sessions.

The headphones come with a decent set of controls on the earcups that allow you to manage your music and call settings. The headphones have buttons to adjust the volume up and down and power, ANC, and the like. The buttons are surrounded with a small section of LED and you can tap them to change the light display. The headphones have a good fit and are well-padded, however, they are quite tight on your head, and may be uncomfortable for those who wear glasses.

JBL's Active Noise Cancellation technology reduces ambient noise by analysing and interpreting the sounds that are coming from outside of the headphone. It then inverts these sounds and blocks them out, creating a quieter listening environment. This allows you to listen to music at lower volumes and avoid the ear fatigue. The headphones come with a built-in microphone that allows you to make calls hands-free and to activate voice assistants.

These headphones work with the majority of Bluetooth devices including your computer and a majority of mobile phones. They're also compatible with most PS4 and Xbox One controllers to receive audio however you won't be able to use them to connect with your co-workers. The USB port allows you to charge them and listen to audio through your computer.

The JBL 760NCs are made to be lightweight with a compact foldable design that makes them easy to pack and take on the move. best over ear headphones 2023 have an inbuilt battery that can last for up to 40 continuous hours and come with noise cancellation to block out distracting sounds. They can be connected to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously which means you don't need to be unable to keep track of time when switching from watching a movie on your tablet to making a call.

Skullcandy Riff Wireless

Skullcandy Riff Wireless 2 is a pair on-ear headphones that offer the features people would expect from on-ear Bluetooth headphones. They come with a low price, all-day battery life as well as an aux cable backup and peace of mind with Tile technology for finding. It has an easy control on the earcup and it can be connected to wired and wireless devices. The Riff Wireless headphones come with an excellent companion application that lets you tweak your listening experience to decrease the delay in video and audio when connected to a smart tv or computer and setup multi-device pairing.

They are extremely comfortable and come with a cushioned headband. They are designed to be used for travel and commute. They can be folded to make it easy to store in bags or backpacks. The tough plastic material is durable and they click when you flex or move them. Noise cancellation may be a problem for some users, but they do block some of the low rumble from busses and chatter of passengers.

The sound quality on these headphones is pretty good, especially considering their budget price. They don't have luscious midranges like some more expensive headphones however they do have good overall clarity at most volume levels. The bass is powerful and punchy, whereas the highs are a little soft, but not loud and stout. They're great for rock and pop but may not be the ideal choice for genres that have deep, full bass.

Comparing to the previous version of these headphones the Riff Wireless 2 have more features. They have a neutral sound that might appeal to some users, a better mic performance and support multi-device pairing. They also allow higher volume and have a longer battery life.

They're good headphones but they don't provide the same level comfort as other Skullcandy products, such as the Hesh 3 Wireless. These headphones are an option for most users, but they're not necessarily the best for active use. They could lose their elasticity when performing intense exercise.

Razer Opus

The Opus is the first effort by Razer at creating a lifestyle headphone. It's a fantastic product. Its target audience is likely to be much larger than gamers and offers quality that rivals the top models from Sony and Bose at an affordable price.

The design is a bit restrained by Razer standards: no RGB lighting or trademark green accents and the Tri-Snake logo isn't to be visible. Rather, the headset looks similar to other Bluetooth headphones, sporting semicircle hinges which swivel and fold flat on the top of the earcups to create an incredibly comfortable headband. The headsets are also smaller and lighter than most gaming headphones, with a weight of just 265g when folded.

Onboard controls are located on the right earcup with track and power buttons, as well as a recessed multi-function button that doubles as a noise-cancellation button. The controls are simple to use and responsive, and they worked as advertised in my tests.

The Opus bass is a roaring and well-rounded, with depth and clarity that you won't find in many budget headphones. The sound isn't as rich as Bose's Extra Bass, but it's nonetheless above expectations for a $200 price tag. Vocals and the lead instruments can be heard with great clarity. The mids are also solid. I did notice a little lack of clarity in the highs, however switching the EQ to Vocal resolved the issue.

As an added bonus, you'll find an 3.5mm analog cable and USB-C-to A adapter inside the carrying case, along with a standard airplane audio jack for those who haven't yet made the switch to all-cable audio. It's a tiny, but a welcome addition to make it easier to use headphones when traveling.

The Opus was a success, just like other THX certified products. I was able to stroll around town with the ANC turned on without the need to increase volume to overcome ambient noise, and I did not feel the need to play my music at a higher volume to hear it. That's the kind of quality that will help you avoid hearing loss over time from excessive exposure to high-frequency frequencies.
