TRUSTEESHIP COUNCIL-
The primary purpose of the Trusteeship Council was to supervise the administration of trust territories and promote their eventual independence.
Trust territories were former colonial territories placed under the administration of UN member states, known as "trustees," to prepare them for self-government.
The Trusteeship Council played a significant role in decolonization efforts by helping trust territories develop their own governance structures and institutions.
As trust territories progressed toward self-sufficiency and self-government, the Trusteeship Council would gradually reduce its involvement in their affairs.
The Trusteeship Council fulfilled its mission as trust territories achieved independence or were integrated into existing sovereign states. As a result, it ceased its operations in the early 1990s.
