Renault Clio Replacement Key
Renault key cards include an emergency blade which can be used in case remote buttons fail to work. The lock may be located close to the door handle and concealed under the cap of a plastic.
Lost Keys
We are a local Renault Key Replacement specialist that can repair your key fob and replacements. We can also reprogram a new key to your vehicle if you've lost yours. This is a straightforward and quick service that we can perform in your office or at home. We use laptop software to connect with your car's computer to program new keys. This is much faster than visiting a traditional dealer and is also a lot cheaper.
Certain Renaults come with a unique key system. Instead of a standard key, a card is inserted into the dash to unlock and start the vehicle. It functions as a standard car key, but it doesn't need to be turned to lock the car. The engine can only start when pressing the brake or clutch pedal.
Verify that the Renault key card has been correctly installed in the ignition and that it has been activated. Test it by turning the ignition numerous times to check that it is working.
Another reason that is commonly cited for the key card not working is because it has been manipulated. It could be because someone has added an additional key to the system, or used an external remote to open and close the doors. In either case the key card will not work anymore and you will need to program it again.
Transponder Keys
Renaults come with a system known as an immobiliser. It's fitted to the vehicle and when you use your key to start it is able to disarm the vehicle. This is beneficial from a security point of view as it makes it difficult for a novice car burglar to melt the wire and start the car without the key.
The majority of Renault cars manufactured after 2000 will have transponder keys. This is because there is an embedded chip in the key's head and when you turn your key into the ignition, it sends out a signal to the immobiliser which disables it and allows the car to begin.
Some older Renaults use a flat steel key that resembles a FOBIK chip key. These keys are able to unlock the doors but not operate the vehicle. Some newer models have an electronic remote that is similar to the FOBIK chip, but instead of a remote it's a complete unit. They are also known as Smart Keys and Proximity Keys.
These keys are harder to take as they require the use of an abrasive tool made of flat metal. These can be purchased at a local hardware shop. These methods, however, do not make it impossible for a professional criminal to steal a car since they can be used in other ways such as a slim jim, removing the door handle, then bending the top of the door away to expose a ring that they can use to remove the lock.
Remote renault trafic key fob
In contrast to transponder keys, remote car keys aren't able to transmit information regarding your identity. They are more of a convenience rather than security. The key fob is equipped with a number buttons that allow you to lock and unlock your vehicle. This makes them a lot more useful than having to manually insert a metal key into the lock every time you are required to drive.
If the original remote key is damaged or lost If it is damaged or lost, you can get a Renault replacement remote key. However, you'll need to find the right key for your particular type of vehicle. This can be costly particularly if you're hiring a locksmith or dealer to complete the work for you. Online websites sell keys at a lower cost. These keys will require to be programmed by a professional to use them.
If you're trying to reprogramme your new key, be sure to adhere to the instructions in the owner's manual thoroughly. Certain models of automobiles require that you press certain buttons on the key to start the reprogramming feature. After you have done so, you'll need to act quickly. There are just a few seconds before the system of the car resets the commands, and then it exits the programming mode. If you don't take care then you'll have to start the process all over in the beginning.
Key Cards
One of the most perplexing feedback we receive from our locksmiths is Renault owners losing their keys. In some instances keys or cards are found in the pockets of the driver. However there are also cases where keys and cards are lost completely.
Many people assume that the only alternative to replacing a lost or stolen key is to call the local Renault dealership and request one for you. This can be a terribly time consuming process and could make you carless for a considerable amount of time while waiting for your new key to arrive.
Renaults have a fairly complex system in terms of keys and immobilisers are concerned. The earliest models (typically from 2000 to around 2000) work with keys that can't be programmed to the vehicle simply by plugging in a tester and pressing a button like many other key fobs available on Ebay. These systems require special tools and software to program the new key.
In more modern Renaults the key card has undergone several changes in terms of how it looks and what is inside it. All Renault key cards come with an emergency blade that can be used if the buttons don't work. The cards also include an additional key that can be used to start the car in case of an unresponsive battery.
