Large swathes of Britain were today warned of icy conditions on the roads as the coldest night of the winter saw temperatures drop as low as -14C.
The Met Office recorded -12C at Kinbrace in Sutherland overnight, while -8.2C was observed in Benson, Oxfordshire, and -6.5C in Odiham, Hampshire.
A temperature of -14C was also forecast on the ground on snow fields in the Highlands at 6am, and some Highland Glens were only at -7C by midday.
