What's The Reason Everyone Is Talking About Lexus Car Key Right Now
Lexus Key Replacement - Replacing a Remote Or Fob

If you own a traditional Lexus key that turns on the ignition, or a smart key for your car that starts with the press of one button, eventually the battery inside your fob will die. It's easy to replace it with an ordinary paperclip. Simply remove the old battery, replace it with the new one (refer to the owner's manual for the type of battery that you need) and then secure it back into its place.

Keys

Lexus keys aren't simple to replace and require a professional locksmith for car keys to create a working spare. This is due to the fact that every Lexus key contains microchips that need to be programmed to sync with the immobiliser of your vehicle - if not it will not be able to start.

replace lexus key takes time and special equipment to execute right, and each model has a different procedure for programming. Replacing a key or remote fob is a costly job and should be left to professionals unless your have the proper tools and knowledge.

You will need to replace the batteries in your smart key or standard key. Both keys work by turning the barrel of the ignition. This can be done yourself however you'll need a small Phillips Screwdriver, 20p coin and paperclip. There are one or two screws on the back of the fob that holds the key. Unscrew them and store them safely (they are small and easy to lose). The fob can be removed to reveal an indentation with a circular shape that houses the metal key, pop the battery out (using the paperclip) and replace it with the new one, making sure that it's pointing the right way up. Clip the the key to secure it.

Remotes

Replacing the Lexus remote or fob is complicated and requires skilled locksmiths equipped with the right tools and knowledge. Some models require that the chip inside the key be changed in order to work with the car's immobiliser system. The Lexus models use different methods to program these chips. This is done by using an instrument that sends an electronic signal to the chip that matches the code used to unlock the doors and start the engine.

Certain Lexus models are built with a key head that is a combination of the key head and remote. They are easy to replace, as there is no chip that needs to be replaced. This type of key can also be a little cheaper.

Whatever the type of key any fob eventually runs out of battery power. It can be a frustrating experience but with a little bit of knowledge you can get your Lexus back to normal. Consult the owner's guide to determine what type of battery you need. Then, find the replacement. Locate a small hole on the inside of the fob. Insert a coin (20p is a good choice) into the hole and then twist. There should be an area flat that you can remove with an ordinary paperclip.

Then, remove the battery that was used and replace it with the new one. Make sure that the replacement battery is installed with the correct polarity. Finally, clip the inside of the fob back to its original position and replace the key with the metal.

Transponder Chips

The majority of new cars manufactured after 1995 have transponder chips within the key head that allow it to deactivate the immobiliser system. The head of a key that is equipped with a transponder chip may be removed to reveal a steel L-shaped key. A transponder-chip replacement keys or fob is a multi-stage procedure. It involves cutting the keys accurately and programming the chip to communicate with the vehicle's immobiliser.

A transponder is a chip that has Non-Volatile Memory. It has a set of windings, which are fine wires coiled around a tube. They look like the ones in an electric motor. These windings produce a coded message that the car is able to read. If the code is correct then the car will allow you to start it.

There are two kinds of transponder chips, the one is known as the 80-bit while the other is called the circle + (General Motors). The first is reusable but needs to be unlocked by a machine that is specially designed to function in a different compatible vehicle. The latter type is more difficult, as the older keys are usually broken and then drilled through or discarded when key cases are replaced. They can be salvaged, however for use with an ad-hoc key that doesn't require a battery in order to function.

Immobiliser Systems

Immobiliser systems are electronic security measures which prevent thieves from starting your vehicle. It works by sending a signal from the vehicle to your key when you attempt to start it. The electronic chip inside your key then responds with an unique code that must match the one in the vehicle to start. If the codes do not coincide, your engine will shut off immediately to stop theft.

Modern smart keys and fobs come with an embedded transponder chip that stores electronic security in a format that can't be easily duplicated. When your key or fob is placed in the ignition, it transmits this code to a device within the ECU. The ECU then compares it with the code that is stored in its memory. It then activates the ignition system and fuel circuit if they match. If the codes do not match, the engine will not start, even if an armed robber attempts to short-circuit the ignition circuit.

Replacing a fob or a key is a multi-stage process that requires precise cutting of the new key blade, and programming it to communicate with your car's immobiliser system. Each immobiliser system is distinct and has its own programming procedure. We utilize Ross-Tech to ensure that the replacement key is correctly programmed. This will give you the highest performance and security.
