In 2017, Silkeborg, Denmark, was declared the Outdoor Capital of Denmark. The city has made significant investments in outdoor facilities and is now a top choice for outdoor activities in Denmark. Silkeborg has also created an Outdoor Institute to encourage outdoor activities in the area. Silkeborg is situated within a region of forests as well as lakes, rivers and rivers that offers many opportunities to participate in outdoor activities.

It is only navigable during the summer months. The closest airport is Midtjyllands Lufthavn, located 40 kilometers north of Silkeborg. Every day, flights to Copenhagen are provided by the airport. Some famous people who have made Silkeborg their home include Don Powell, drummer of the 70's rock band Slade and his Danish wife Hanna. Per Lundqvist, a schoolteacher is also a city home.

It has a museum

Silkeborg has the museum that exhibits more than a thousand years of history. The museum houses 2,400 years old artifacts and living history exhibits.

It has a handball team

Silkeborg's handball team is part of the Danish Handball League. The team, named Bjerringbro-Silkeborg Handbold, has been in existence since 2005. They currently are in fifth place in the league table. The team averages 26.3 goals per game.

It has an open-air marina

If you are planning a trip to Silkeborg there are plenty of alternatives for transportation. Silkeborg is home of numerous lakes and waterways making it a popular spot for boating, sailing and hiking. It is easily accessible via train or the Hjejlen paddle-steamer. The city is home to several interesting attractions, such as the Riverboat Jazz Festival and the Abne Atelierdore.
