Prey Movie Review One of the things that makes this film
In a sequence that has had many a misstep, Prey lastly nails it. It's an motion movie with a powerful main character, a heroine to root for that does not come off as a brash brat or a whiny crybaby. Prey is a survivalist thriller and proto-Western that works and is worthy of being referred to as a sequel to the original.

One of the issues that makes this movie so successful is that it truly understands its villain. Unlike different "monsters" from Hollywood, the Predator here isn't a mindless freak; it is a crafty hunter that knows its way round expertise and may use its superior data to outfox its prey. The film even explains that this is how it killed Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) within the first movie.

I do have a couple of problems with the movie though. For one, it's fairly obnoxious with its portrayal of women. The script focuses on Naru's battle to be taken critically by her tribe and as such is sort of sexist in how she behaves and the facial expressions she displays. It's not the worst downside I actually have with the movie but it's one thing to maintain in mind.

Another problem is that the story just goes on too long. The final showdown with the Predator feels like it goes on for an hour longer than it needs to. I would have liked to see extra time spent on the interaction between the tribe and the predator instead of the tacked on scenes with different characters. While the movie is a good addition to the Predator franchise, it's not the best film I've ever seen..
