Expectations In Texas Hold Em Poker
Heads Up Action is a post-flop scenario that is preferred by professional poker players. Heads up action is much easier to play. Bluffs and semi-bluffs are successful a higher percentage of the time than in multi-way pots. It is easier to see the strength of your opponent's hands. Pots can often be won in heads-up action with low to mid-paired hands or even high-card hand.

The advantage for players in late positions is generally great. The middle position is not without its drawbacks. MP may not be able to see what the EP's are doing, but there are still others who can react to MPs actions. MPs are left open on squeeze play, where MPs might get trapped trying call on EPs' bet and it may be raised by LPs. MPs who are trying to slow down a game or keep an eye on their opponents' hands may find themselves in danger from the squeeze game. Even if they have a marginal hand, some players will react aggressively to make it more difficult for MP's to bet or shell out more chips.

Watch out for newcomers as they arrive. They are dangerous, and newbies who play the game recklessly can be dangerous. People who go all out every other hand are unlikely to make it through the tournament. However they may take your stack and steal it if you don?t protect yourself. If you don't need to, don't pay for cards. If you have low cards, don't pay as much to see the flop. Protect your hand with raising if the flop comes with high cards or a high pair. Don't steal blinds in the early stages of a tourney. When blinds are so low, it's not sensible to put in large amounts of money just to be able to take their low antes. Save this tactic for later on. If you want to win poker tournaments, be smart and start early. If you have a hand in your hand, bet and then raise. If you don't get the flop, check and raise. Wait for the right cards and strike your opponents when you have the right hand.

Some people disagree, and think the strategy for jacks and better is simpler. Brad and my experience have been the opposite. The strategy is easy because you only need to have as many deuces as you have.

No Action - There's nothing to explore. Pre-flop play that sees all but one of the players fold results in no post-flop activity. In this situation, there is no post-flop action because no flop has been dealt. Congratulations, you just saved some cash!
