Eight Must-do Indigenous-led Experiences In Edmonton, Alberta
The Métis Nation began in Canada's early years when French and Scottish fur traders married First Nations women. In 1982, they became one of the three teams of recognized Indigenous Peoples of Canada. But it’s been around a hundred and sixty years because the final bison — or “bufloo” in Michif, the language of the Métis — roamed these hills. Tales from the Trapline, a 3-hour immersive Indigenous experience that explores Métis traditional winter actions and abilities on a historic Métis River Lot Farm, is doubtless certainly one of the most popular experiences at Métis Crossing.

We believe that range means inclusion and reflection of all people including cultures, languages and views. Join us on our journey to grasp Indigenous ways of being, do our part to support Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and discover ways to serve extra underrepresented communities in our work to guard and rejoice Canada’s various heritage places. On September 25, 2021, Métis Crossing welcomed the return of Woods Bison, Plains Bison, White Bison, Elk, White Elk, and Percheron horses to their newly created Visions, Hopes and Dreams Wildlife Park. The necessary relationship between the Métis folks and bison stems from the standard bison hunt that introduced 1000's of Métis people together across the prairies each spring and fall.
These had been made by Northern Plains Indigenous peoples who gathered there for over 6,400 years. And the bison that had been recently reintroduced to this space had a role to find the petroglyphs. The same strategy applies to the archery expertise at Painted Warrior, the place bow and arrow traditions are shared. Visitors progress via a collection of lessons on how to maintain and use a bow, be taught correct kind and progress to focus on taking pictures.
Elk Island National Park, situated less than an hour's drive from Edmonton, is among the best places to see the enduring bison.
