A culture is a way of thinking and living established by a group of people, where collective values are expressed.
A civilization is a culture that is well organized in all fronts, structured group.
Not sure when cultures began and became civilizations.
35,000 years ago, is around the time when historians believed cultures and civilizations would have first begun.
Homo sapiens and Neanderthals cooked food with fire, wore clothes, and made tools for many uses; they also buried their dead, from which religious beliefs could then be formed off of.
Paleolithic Period: early ice age correspondence
This is the earliest defined cultural era.
It is during the last part of this era between 35,000 and 10,000 BCE that the first images and objects that can be called art first appeared.
Prehistoric art is thought to be solely primal, ritualistic. The dance before the hunt, the carvings to represent the kill; primal not creative.
Most of what we know from this time period is from _cave paintings: the most famous cave painting is found in Lascaux France.
created between 15,000 and 10,000 BCE. The paintings are very naturalistic depictions of bison boar's reindeer mammoths' wolves and horses. They are believed to be ritualistic in nature as their exact purpose is unknown.
Sculpture: were made from ivory and bone, horns stone clay, possibly wooden but it doesn't survive well. Human figures in the stone are rare but typically female in nature. The most famous of this type is the "Venus of Willendorf". This is from about 25,000 to 20,000 BCE and was found in western Austria near the Danube River.
