The 2023 College Football Schedule
As college football season is about to commence, television networks and kickoff times have been revealed. Notable events on this year's schedule include coaching debuts as well as high-profile rivalry games.

Matt Rhule makes his Nebraska head coaching debut against Minnesota on Thursday while Luke Fickell will take the field at Wisconsin.
Week 1

College football will kickoff in 2023 with two highly-anticipated matchups that could make headlines. Networks and conference partners will release their Week 1 schedules on Wednesday, featuring several intriguing games.

Florida State and LSU meet again for their opening game of 2023, marking their first meeting since their exciting 14-point second-half comeback against LSU last November in New Orleans. ESPN could potentially air this game and it should draw plenty of viewers.

This non-conference matchup promises to be one of the season's biggest glitzy non-conference contests, as both programs have battled hard for this matchup for years now - it promises to be an epic contest between them! It promises to be an explosive showdown.
Week 2

Week 2 could be a nailbiter with plenty of exciting moments on tap for ESPN viewers. Ole Miss-Tulane should provide an exciting early game, while Florida State-Boston College should make for an exciting prime-time showdown.

CBS may not have an enticing matchup in its 3:30 slot, but Michigan-UNLV should still produce some ratings boosts for CBS. Fox, on the other hand, will likely host one of the weekend's marquee matchups: Ohio State at Michigan, which should pull in high ratings and serve as a great lead-in for NBCUniversal's new direct-to-consumer platform, Peacock.
Week 3

The Big Ten schedule kicks off with Michigan and Nebraska facing each other, in what could be a Top 25 matchup. Though not an extremely high-profile contest, CBS should benefit from strong viewership for this one.

Fox offers Deion Sanders' Colorado debut at TCU at 3:30 p.m. to fill its Big Noon window without depending on an marquee SEC matchup like Alabama-Oklahoma.

NBC offers an impressive schedule as well. Notably featuring the exhilarating Cy-Hawk rivalry, its lineup features four quality games that could potentially appear during one of its three primary time slots.
Week 4

College football fans will have plenty to shout about this weekend as LSU and Florida State square off in one of 2023's marquee rivalries and Big Ten Conference teams have an schedule which would rival that of streaming services.

Fox will open their 3:30 window with the sound of a crawfish-laden tide, with plenty of games planned for its other two windows.

Peacock, NBCUniversal's direct-to-consumer platform, will also carry select NBC Sports Network telecasts live streaming via Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, or other devices.
Week 5

This week's schedule illustrates the difficulty networks face when selecting games. Michigan's Big Ten opener at Nebraska and Michigan State's home game against Iowa are surefire ratings-beaters; yet few networks may opt to schedule either in their 3:30 p.m. slots.

Fox offers up the most engaging schedule this week, starting the day with an intense Cy-Hawk rivalry and Texas-Alabama match-up that should do well in its early window. CBS and NBC may also find suitable games in their timeslots.
Week 6

The 2023 college football season kicks off this Saturday, Aug. 26, and major TV networks began unveiling game selections and times on Wednesday for its opening three weeks of play - something particularly noteworthy due to Big Ten contracts with CBS, Fox and NBC.

Fox has made their choice in the early window clear: Deion Sanders and Colorado taking on Nebraska for their home opener should draw ratings. Ole Miss taking on Tulane at noon and Cincinnati at Pittsburgh at 7 pm could both provide standout games on Fox.
Week 7

Networks will rely heavily on ratings drivers during Week 4 of the 2023 season to fill their schedules, although that task could prove challenging; CBS may find it challenging to sell Michigan vs Nebraska as an afternoon matchup in its 3:30 window, for example.

As this game marks a rematch of a classic rivalry that garnered huge ratings in 2022, networks may want to switch it up with another event such as Pitt-West Virginia or Cincinnati at Appalachian State instead of featuring it again.

Fox has made no secret of their desire to include Deion Sanders' Colorado debut at TCU as part of their Big Noon slot.
week 0 college football

With college football season a little over 100 days away, networks and conferences released their selections and kickoff times on Wednesday. This year was particularly intriguing, given that Big Ten media contracts with CBS, Fox and NBC are set to expire shortly.

Fox is confident their Week 2 Big Noon pick will draw strong ratings: Deion Sanders' Colorado squad visiting Nebraska should provide excellent early viewing numbers.

Prime-time window also has tremendous promise on CBS Sports Network. Although Notre Dame at NC State might struggle against Texas A&M-Miami for audience share, an Irish-Duke matchup could certainly make for compelling television.
Week 9

Today marks 90 days until college football season kicks off and networks and conferences began releasing their schedules, including LSU-Florida State on Labor Day and Texas-Alabama in week 2.

This week features two Power 5 matchups as Michigan and Nebraska meet on CBS in what should be an entertaining encounter, though Michigan could slip up early on and lose.

ESPN's noon slot faces an extremely challenging week this week with Ole Miss at Tulane, Cincinnati at Pittsburgh and Appalachian State against North Carolina all on tap for coverage.
