The College Football Schedule 2023
With college football season just around the corner, now is an opportune time to consider your 2023 schedule.

Willie Fritz's Green Wave will attempt to break a long losing streak against Ole Miss in Week 2, making this game one to watch!
Florida State vs. Coastal Carolina

Week 1 of the college football schedule 2023 promises plenty of excitement, especially on its inaugural Saturday. Nebraska meets Minnesota under Matt Rhule for their opening contest; while Coastal Carolina Chanticleers travel west of Central time zone to take on UCLA for their inaugural FBS contest.

North Carolina opened their season against Oregon State on that same day while Virginia hosted Tennessee in Nashville. Old Dominion made its linear debut against Virginia Tech while South Alabama visited Tulane for their ESPNU appearances.

ABC will feature two iconic rivalries during its afternoon show: Florida State versus LSU will rematch their epic battle from last season, which came down to a single play, while Utah looks to build off of their impressive nonconference run against SEC powerhouse Georgia on ESPN televised by ABC (for four consecutive weeks of SEC teams on ABC Saturday Night Football Presented by Capital One). Also of note in Weeks 1-3 are several Big 12 contests including Cincinnati, Houston and BYU matchups that air live during ABC Saturday Night Football Presented by Capital One; these games air live across four separate channels as part of "ABC Saturday Night Football Presented by Capital One".
Army vs. Navy

The Army-Navy football rivalry first kicked off on November 29, 1890 at West Point, and has continued ever since. Over time, this rivalry has been played in various cities but most often centered in Philadelphia due to its close proximity to both campuses of both institutions.

This year's Army-Navy game will mark a number of firsts - Gillette Stadium will host for the first time, as will FedEx Field and M&T Bank Stadium in Washington and Baltimore respectively. MetLife Stadium in New York City will play host to only its sixth event outside Philadelphia (it hosted in New Jersey during December! ), though that matchup did feature 19 times between both sides meeting each other!

CBS Sporting Club, Citizen Crust, Scorpion Bar, Six String Grill & Stage, Skipjack's Tavolino Twenty8 and Wormtown Brewery will host watch parties for America's Game. On Oct 21st the Black Knights take on Air Force at Soldier Field while Air Force will defend their Commander-in-Chief's Trophy by hosting Army at Empower Field at Mile High (the Falcons will play Navy Nov 4th).
Michigan vs. Ohio State

When two Big Ten rivals meet up in The Game, it is an event to remember. Now week 0 college football schedule for both programs, The Game is considered one of the greatest college football matches on every season's schedule - so much so that Robert Asprin who attended Michigan wrote Myth Directions about its significance!

The 117th running of The Game will be an intense affair for both sides, as the stakes can often be high. Crowds, unpredictable weather conditions, and deep animosity between competitors make The Horseshoe game ideal TV viewing.

Michigan and Ohio State will once again meet in 2023 in what should be an intriguing matchup, as Michigan seeks retribution after last year's loss in this game. Since they may compete for College Football Playoff berths this game could prove crucial - Fox broadcast will it with an 11am start time.
Penn State vs. Ohio State

With CBS Sports serving as its home for Big Ten football games this fall, Penn State fans will have more chances than ever before to watch its beloved Lions play football at Beaver Stadium. 2024 brings Ohio State, Michigan and USC games while 2025 gives Rutgers, Minnesota and UCLA an opportunity to experience its whiteout atmosphere.

On September 2, Ohio State kicks off their Big Ten schedule at Indiana. Coach James Franklin has long voiced his displeasure with this scheduling quirk which has forced his team to open league play on the road for eight consecutive seasons and 13 out of 14 over time.

The Buckeye defense should face a rigorous challenge against Penn State in their match-up, as they attempt to contain running back Nicholas Singleton who averaged more than 100 yards per game last season. Singleton may receive support from KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Jaxon-Smith Njigba while quarterback Drew Allar could potentially present difficulties for defenses as he has an abundance of big play potential.
Jacksonville State vs. Sam Houston State

Sam Houston State and Jacksonville State both move up from FCS this season to Conference USA's newly revamped league structure, but are ineligible for postseason play; nonetheless, they will compete alongside their Conference USA peers during regular season competition. They will meet for their inaugural nonconference matchup at Bowers Stadium in Huntsville on September 28.

The 2023 conference schedule begins with South Carolina hosting UTEP as their inaugural C-USA game as an FBS program on Aug. 26. JSU also plays home games against East Tennessee State on Sept. 2 and Eastern Michigan on Sept. 9. Additionally, The Marching Southerners will play against one of the top FCS programs Coastal Carolina who defeated UTEP in an EasyPost Hawai'i Bowl game last season.

All Sun Belt schools play at least one Power 5 team; Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss have played against two. Marshall Old Dominion and Southern Miss have two matches against these opponents while Marshall Old Dominion and Old Dominion each had two of these meetings between themselves. Marshall Old Dominion and Southern Miss were each subject to multiple match-ups from one of these conferences: Marshall Old Dominion played two against Old Dominion; Old Dominion received four while Southern Miss had three against Alabama at USF; finally Conference USA boasts five matches against Power 5 teams!
