How to Replace a SAAB Key Fob
A key fob that's not working properly can cost you hundreds of dollars from a dealer. You can repair it yourself and save money.
You'll need a small flathead screwdriver to cut the case and get at the electronics inside. A multimeter is also required to test the battery.
Battery
Most key fobs activate whenever you press a button, either to lock or unlock the car (or to start it for those with keyless ignition). The reason is that they have an internal battery that sends an alarm to the vehicle to let it know you're close enough to press the starter button. If your fob begins to be incongruous, it is likely that the battery has deteriorated and needs to be replaced.
It's a fairly simple process, but you will need to be careful not to damage the electronic components in the fob. If you aren't sure what size battery your fob requires check for a sticker or other marking on the back of the key fob that specifies what it needs. You can also make use of a multimeter for testing the battery you have and see whether it's still in use.
Once you've identified the proper battery for the key fob, you can remove it and replace it with a new one. Then you can snap the two parts of the fob back together, and you'll be good to go. Buy a few extras batteries to have them in the event that the battery in your key fob is lost or is worn out. This will avoid the headache of replacing the whole key fob in the future.
Electronics
Key fobs that are used to lock and unlock cars remotely are powered by a battery. It's not uncommon for the battery fail or the electronics inside the key fob wear down depending on how frequently you use it. Replace your SAAB keyfob battery as soon you can to avoid it accidentally locking and unlocking your car.
Fortunately replacing the battery or electronics in a SAAB key fob is a fairly simple procedure. It does not require any special tools, and you can even do it at home if know how to do it. It is, however, important to be cautious when removing the electronic components from the case of your SAAB key fob as they could be damaged if you push them too forcefully.
It is quite common for owners of SAAB 9-3 cars to lose their primary working key. You may have to pay a lot to get a new key from the dealer and wait for weeks before receiving it. Our Oakland mobile SAAB locksmith can cut keys for you using a Toyota key and program it in your immobilizer for only a fraction of the cost.
A brand new Toyota key costs around $120 which is a tiny fraction of the price that dealers charge. You'll also save the cost of towing your vehicle to the dealer and the time you'll have to wait for them to complete the job.
Reprogramming
There's a good chance that you'll need to replace the keys for your car that are manual. This is a straightforward procedure that does not require special tools. Simply insert a flathead screwdriver into the slot in the middle of the case. Carefully open the case and you'll be able remove the old key fob. The battery and the electronics can be removed easily, however, you must be careful not to scratch any plastic.
In the past, it wasn't unexpected to steal the neighbor's Volkswagen Golf 2 2. Thanks to the latest technology automobiles are now less difficult to hack. The electronic chip that is in car keys is the culprit, not the metal part of the key. It's a good idea to keep an extra key fob, or to change the programming of a saab fob.
The cost to reprogram the key fob can be a bit expensive depending on the vehicle year and model. To get a precise estimate it is recommended that you contact an area locksmith and give them the year of your vehicle, the model, and make of your vehicle. This will help you determine whether or not the service is worth the cost. Also, you should get an emergency key in the event you lose your other keys. You'll save a significant amount of money in the end.
Remove the manual key
Modern key fobs, whether they're used as car keys or to start your car with a push-button backup keys built-in. This allows them to be used as physical keys in the event that your fob's electronic circuits fail or are damaged. If saab replacement key programming have one of these key fobs, and are realizing that it's not allowing you to unlock your car as easily or sending a signal to your vehicle that informs you when you press the starter button, chances are your backup key is dying.
You can resolve this issue quickly, but you must replace the battery as quickly as you can. YouTube videos will help you navigate the simple process of replacing a car keyfob battery.
Depending on the nature of damage your fob has suffered, you may have to replace components or perform some other extensive work to restore it. It could be a cracked circuit board, tiny electronic components not fully attached to the circuit board or bent or oxidized terminals for battery connectors. Ask a technician what the most affordable option is for repairing or replacing the key fob for the saab remote.
