Recent studies have focused on the prevalence of mesothelioma caused by erionite in the s North Dakota and other areas where the gravel pits derived from erionite were used to create roads and other infrastructure. In these areas, both activity-based and ambient tests of the air were performed to identify mesothelioma-related risks. The results indicated that erionite exposure is likely to be the cause of mesothelioma cases, and it is recommended that the exposure be evaluated before a proposed relocation of the affected villages.
