10 Life Lessons We Can Learn From Saab Key Fob
How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob

All cars must have a remote/transmitter to lock or unlock your car. The batteries inside these devices have a life span and can eventually go bad.

If you are thinking of purchasing a Saab 93 and don't have two keys, you can purchase one for around $400. This involves buying a new TWICE module at the dealer and installing it using a hand-held computer, called Tech2. Tech2.

Keys Replacement

Many used Saabs only have one key. It is recommended, whenever you can, to buy a spare one. This will be less expensive than replacing the entire vehicle should you lose it. It is also essential to rotate your keys on a regular basis so that they don't get all the wear and tear and also to keep them clean.

If you lose your primary key, you'll need to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module along with a new key and a special program to convince the car that you are not trying to steal it. The replacement of these modules can cost upwards of $400, and the parts are available for purchase via mail, so it is not an immediate job for the majority of locksmiths, or even dealers.

The good news is, most modern Saab vehicles can have a secondary key that can be added to the system. This is possible without having to replace the original computer. The dealer will need to use a specific handheld computer called a Tech-2 to insert the second key and then program it into the vehicle. Some independent garages can do this as well however the process is more complex. They must reprogram your existing car computer's EEPROM so it will accept the new key.

Replacement key fobs for keys

Saab owners who have lost their previous key or had it stolen should get a new replacement as soon as possible. The steps to get a working 9-3 Saab key fob require the service department of the dealer and can cost hundreds of dollars, including the price of a new key, a new TWICE module (theft warning integrated central electronics), and reprogramming to convince the car that the additional key isn't stolen.

The process is cheaper should you have an extra. The new key should be paired with the original TWICE unit, and a used one is unlikely to function in this application, but genuine OEM replacement can typically be obtained from the dealer at just a fraction of the cost.

Making the case for a new SAAB key fob is fairly easy. Use a flathead tool to pry the case open, but be careful to avoid damaging the electronics inside. After you have removed the electronic components and battery, you can replace the case with the shell of the old key fob. Place the two pieces in a line and then gently press them together to allow them to click in the right place. After everything is in place, you can resynchronize the new fob. It's worth noting that the process of adding the new key is more complex than simply replacing the emergency key and requires the dealer's assistance using a specific tool known as the Tech-2.

Keys for replacement ignition

First, ensure that the transmission is in Park. This will stop your car from rolling if the lock in your transmission fails or in the event that your manual transmission is pushed into gear.

In the majority of cases the issue lies in the electronics inside the key fob which control how the car recognizes the key when it's put into the ignition cylinder. The key made of metal is easy to copy but it is the electronic part of the key fob that lets the car recognize the keys.

The addition of a second key to the Saab car requires a specific transmitter with a transponder along with it, and some sort of special programming of the vehicle to convince the computer that it is not trying to steal the vehicle. This is not something that a locksmith is able to do, it needs to be done by a dealer, or an electronic handheld computer called a Tech2.

If you already have a functioning key fob then adding another isn't going to cost more than $200. The other expense is the actual manufacturing of the metal key in the event that you require it. Most dealers can do this, however it could take several weeks to receive the part and the car programmed.

Replacement Remotes

The Saab 9-3's cabin is designed from the driver outward with clear layouts and the feel of the controls. The dashboard curves around the driver, and features a fun turbo vacuum gauge to add an original touch to its instrumentation. The leather-wrapped steering wheel has audio, cruise control, and phone controls.

The console that sits between the seats has only one cupholder, while the knobs for the Bose audio and dual-zone climate controls are placed well. The touch-screen display is distracting while driving.

In terms of power, the 9-3 is a competent performer. The base model, which is low-pressure turbo, takes around 8 seconds to reach 60mph, while the more potent Viggen can do so in 6.9 seconds.

One of the key factors in the Turbo X's success is its outstanding handling. Despite its weight distribution of 60/40 front-to-back, the Turbo X is agile and well-balanced when driving on two-lane highways.

Fuel economy is the only drawback to this car's impressive dynamic. It's rated at around 27 mpg city and 35 mpg in highway driving with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. saab key replacement cost with more power will be available in 2008 only. This model includes a unique rear seat that folds flat into the floor, which adds to the capacity of cargo. It also comes with a unique rear spoiler, as well as a more aggressive bumper.
