Your Family Will Be Thankful For Having This Replacement Key For Renault Clio
Renault Keys - How They Work

Renaults use a fairly complicated system as far as the immobiliser and keys go. This could make the process of replacing keys extremely time-consuming. It can take a long time to code your car unless you have access to it and can bring it to us.

Keys

The Renault group is perhaps best known as a manufacturer of vans, buses, Lorries and tractors but they also manufacture cars. It is a well-established business which was established in 1899. They offer a wide variety of car models. You'll need a new key if you lose or damage your keys to your car. Why not let us make one for you instead of waiting for your local dealer to order one and then wait longer for it to arrive? KeyNOW is the only place where you can get a replacement. KeyNOW we can replace your remote or smart key for you very quickly.

If you require a Renault Clio V, Captur 2 or New Zoe spare key we can provide you with a mechanical code to order a new key from the dealer. We can also reset your Renault Kangoo Traffic or Master key.

Renault has a long history of innovation. It was the first company to have utilized remote central locking on a production car. Paul Lipschultz invented this technology for Niemens, an automotive supplier of security components. This breakthrough was a huge leap in the direction of safety for cars.

Remotes

The hands-free cards offered by Renault are still widely used in their vehicles, despite the fact that smartphones appear to be replacing them. In fact, they're included in two of every three vehicles Renault sells and their use has increased in recent years. In this video, Pascaline of Renault's products division discusses the primary components of these cards and how they work.

Renaults come with an immobiliser system that is quite complex. It is crucial to know the basics prior to trying to unlock your car without the use of a key. Some cars have an emergency lock on the handle for the passenger door that can be used in the event a key failure or a battery runout. This is a great option for people who don't want to hire a locksmith.

You'll require a device such as an ultra-thin jim or pump-up to remove the key fob. If you don't have these tools it could be necessary to utilize a screwdriver or hammer to remove the cylinder.

You should be able to get through the passenger door and see an unassuming lock that is inserted into the driver's side panel next to the door handle. This is a security measure to prevent people from locking themselves inside their car or accidentally stealing a neighbour's. It's a simple but effective security measure that can save you lots of time and trouble when you have to gain access to your vehicle quickly.

Transponders

Transponders are used on many modern cars to safeguard against car theft. These small devices, that are connected to the key fob, have a chip inside and can communicate with the car when it is within the range. These chips use a unique code to identify the key and tell it what vehicle it is associated with.

The chip transmits a signal that is picked up by coils that are positioned around the ignition barrel inside the vehicle. These coils are activated by the key and transmit an electromagnetic pulse to the chip. The chip responds by sending a unique identification to the car. The unique code is used to unlock the doors and then start the engine.

During World War 2, a similar technology was utilized to assist air traffic control to identify military aircrafts on radar. This type of chip is still in use in the aviation industry.

These systems were believed to be clone proof, until recently. This was due to the fact that there were only 74 Quadrillion (74,000,000,000,000,000) possible codes for each transponder. However, renault key programming behind these chips has since been upgraded and they are now not completely clone-proof. This has seen many auto locksmiths upgrade their skills by learning to read, write and program these newer types.

Immobilisers

Renaults are a bit complicated in the area of key systems and immobilisers. There are two main mechanisms that affect how a new key is programmed into the car. The older system uses an "kill switch" to disable a vital part of the car's ignition mechanism if the proper key is not present. They are extremely delicate and require an experienced technician to detect and fix the issue should they fail.

The newer system is more user-friendly to use. It employs advanced encryption and rolling security codes to prevent copying the code from the ECU or key. This is the code that will be used to replace keys that we supply.

Certain models may even feature an earpiece that can't be detected by the standard transponder scanners. It is also unique to the vehicle. This is a great way to prevent hotwiring, and is also difficult to bypass using an ordinary key or transponder emulator. We have a special product dubbed the Renault Antenna Emulator (RAE) that can be used to disable this type of immobiliser in Renault Clio phase 2 models, as well as in some Renault commercial vehicles with ID46 transponders. It works by mimicking operation of a transponder that is valid in the ring antenna. It can be used on damaged or lost keys without dismantling the ECU. It is Thatcham tested and endorsed to provide further security for customers of motor insurance.
