Renault Clio Replacement Key
Renault key cards are fitted with an emergency key blade that can be used to unlock the doors in the event that remote buttons do not function. The lock is usually located near the door handle, and hidden under the cap of plastic.
Lost Keys
We are a local Renault Key Replacement Specialist providing key fob repairs and replacements. We can also reprogram a new key to your car if you have lost yours. This is a straightforward and quick service that we can perform in your office or at home. We utilize laptop software to connect with your car's computer and program new keys. This is significantly faster than visiting the main dealer and is also a lot less expensive.
Some Renaults are a little different in that they don't utilize a standard key, but instead use the key card slotted into the dash panel to unlock the car and then start it. It functions the same way as a standard key, but isn't required to be turned to lock it and the engine is able to be started by pressing the clutch pedal or brake.
If your Renault key card ceases to function, the first step is check that it is properly inserted into the ignition and that it is activated. You can check this by turning the ignition a few times to verify that it is functioning.
Another reason that can cause the key card not working is that it has been tampered with. It could be that someone has added an additional key to the system, or used a remote to open and close the doors. In either case the key card will no longer work and you will need to have it programmed again.
Transponder Keys
Renaults come with a system known as an immobiliser that is fitted to the vehicle and when you use your keys to start it is able to disarm the vehicle. This is great from a security point of standpoint as it makes it difficult for a novice car thief to hot wire and start the car without having the actual key.
The majority of Renault vehicles built after 2000 are fitted with transponder keys. The key has an embedded chip that transmits a signal to an immobiliser when the key is inserted into the ignition.
Certain older Renaults use a flat metal key that resembles a FOBIK chip key. Keys that unlock the doors but aren't able to operate the vehicle. Some newer models have an electronic remote that is similar to the FOBIK chip but instead of a remote, it is a complete unit. These are known as Smart Keys and Proximity Keys.
They are more difficult to take as they require a flat metal tool. These can be purchased at your local hardware store. However, these methods do not make it impossible for a professional criminal to steal a car, as they can be used in other ways such as using a slim jim, taking off the door handle and then bending the top of the door to expose a ring that they can use to take off the lock.
Remote Keys
Unlike transponder keys, remote car keys aren't capable of transmitting information about your identity. They are designed for convenience, not for security reasons. The key fob comes with many buttons that allow you to lock and unlock your car. This makes them more useful than the need to manually insert your metal key into the lock every time you have to drive.
You can purchase a replacement remote key for your Renault if the original one is lost or damaged. You will need to obtain the proper key for your type of vehicle. This can be costly especially if employing a locksmith, dealer or dealer to complete the work for you. Online sites offer blank keys at a cheaper cost. These keys will still require to have a professional program these keys.
Follow the directions in your owner's manual while programming a new key. In some models, you need to press certain buttons to start the reprogramming feature. Once you've done this, you'll need to act quickly. There are only a few minutes left before the car's system resets the commands, and exits the programming mode. If you are not careful then you'll have to restart the process and over.
Key Cards
One of the most puzzling feedback we receive from our locksmiths is Renault owners losing their key cards. In some instances, the keys or card are found in the pocket of the driver. However there are also cases where the keys and key cards are completely lost.
Many people believe that the only method to replace a key is to contact your local Renault dealership and ask them to purchase one for you. This is a laborious process, and you could end up without a vehicle for a long time while you wait for your new key.
Renaults have a rather complicated system in terms of the keys and immobiliser are concerned. Early models (typically until around 2000) use a key which cannot be programmed by plugging in the tester and pressing a switch as with other key fobs that you can purchase on Ebay. These systems require special tools and software in order to program the new key.
The key card in more modern Renaults has seen a few changes, both in terms the design and appearance as well as the contents. All Renault key cards now have an emergency key blade which can be used to unlock the vehicle in the event that the buttons do not function. renault clio key have an ignition key that is hidden within them in the event that the battery goes out.
