Let's start at the top and work our way down. The highest hand, the one that beats all, is the Royal Flush. It is a straight, from a ten up to an ace, and all five cards must be from the same suit. All the cards in your hand should come from one of the four card suits. The English-speaking world uses four playing card suits: Hearts (Spades), Diamonds (Diamonds), and Clubs (Clubs). Straight flushes is the next highest hand. This is when you have any hand that contains all five cards of the same suit. Straight Flush is a hand that can raise the stakes because a Royal Flush (rare) is possible.

Your opponent bets, and you call. On fourth street, a blank hits and your opponent checks. Also, make sure you are clear about whether you intend to call or bet on the river. Notice that if your opponent has a better poker hand than you have, you avoid being check-raised.

CALL - A player may call if there has been a bet on the current round. Calling involves the player matching the current bet placed by his/her opponent(s).
