Saab 9-3 Key Replacement 101 This Is The Ultimate Guide For Beginners
How to Replace the Replacement Key Battery For the Saab 9-3

Saab owners have a unique set of steps to add the second key. This requires the use of a handheld computer called Tech-2 which is used by the dealer. Then a new key as well as transponder have to be purchased and then programmed into the car.

It is a good idea to rotate your keys so that one does not wear out faster than the other. This will also ensure that your keys remain in pristine condition.

Replacement Case

Unlike the classic Saab keys of the past keys, the modern key fobs are equipped with electronics which makes it more difficult to copy. This has made stealing cars much more difficult than it was twenty years ago. It also makes it more expensive to replace keys lost.

Saab 9-3 owners must have two keys working. It is expensive to replace a lost key as it requires replacing the CIM module, and changing the locking cylinders. Dealers charge between $100 and $200 to do this.

There are ways to reduce these high cost. Some parts retailers will find the code on an old key (usually the same one that opens the doors and turns on the ignition) and cut a new metal key blade at just a fraction of dealer cost. The key must, however, be identical to the original to work correctly in your vehicle.

You can also change the case yourself by following these steps. You'll require an open-faced screwdriver and a lot of patience. Utilizing the screwdriver, slowly pull the plastic apart and separate the emergency key from the case. Once the case is open, remove the electronic components and put them back into your new case. Make sure you insert the correct badge and key back into the case as well.

Replacement Battery

The replacement battery for the Saab 9-3 is a cheap part that can be replaced quickly and easily. This video tutorial on DIY from YouTube user Cyclone Cyd explains how to replace the battery of the remote key fob in just four steps. This tutorial should work with any modern Saab key fob. However, the process may differ slightly.

The first step is to find the button that lets off the backup key inside the fob. This button is usually located close to the Saab logo on the back of the fob. Use a flathead screwdriver to insert the screwdriver into the small hole on this button. This should be enough to unlock the case of the fob so that you can replace the battery.

Once saab key programmer is installed it is possible to reassemble the remote key fob and then program it to your car. The entire process should take no more than an hour, if not less. It is a simple process that does not require any special tools.

The process is a bit more complex if you lose your key, but still possible. The dealer must verify the VIN of the car, and then order a new key blade and TWICE module that has the exact unique code. The dealer will then have to program the key using MDI, a new software tool.

Key Replacement Fob

The key fob has a battery that is used to lock and unlock your vehicle. The batteries are able to last for and eventually go out of service. This is a common problem that happens with all cars, and the good news is that you can replace the batteries on most key fobs and not have to replace the whole case. Amazon sells replacement fobs that already have all the electronic components in place. You can simply pop the case open and replace the batteries. It is important to remember that you'll need remove the emergency key first, and you can do this by inserting a small flathead screwdriver into the slot in the middle of the case. Use the screwdriver to move around the case, and it should split open, making it much easier to remove.

If you're about to replace the keys, ensure you have a spare, because this can cut down your total cost by a substantial amount. If you do have a spare, you can request that the dealer cut a new key and program it to your car, which is much cheaper than replacing the whole key fob.

It is possible to add a second key to your car if you don't already have one, but it takes a great deal of research and effort. The cost for adding a second key is about a few hundred dollars and it also requires programming of the car's computer. This can be accomplished by a professional, but it's an expensive option for the majority of owners.

Replacement Ignition

Unlike earlier Saab cars, the modern SAAB 9-3 models are equipped with an extremely sophisticated alarm system that is built on a key code. This means that should you lose only one working key, adding another one could be very expensive since the car has to have a computer module installed, and it must also be programmed to accept an additional key. Most locksmiths can't do this and a dealer will charge several hundred dollars to program the new key!

Dealers will charge you a premium to replace your car computer (also known as the CIM or SAAB twice) when you lose your only functioning key. Instead, we can reprogram the EEPROM in your current car computer to allow it to be programmed for an additional key, saving you over 50% of what you'd pay at a dealership.

If you've been a long time owner of a 03-11 SAAB 9-3, then you likely have noticed that the ignition switch isn't the most durable. If your ignition key isn't working correctly, you should think about replacing it. They can become sticky and the buttons can fall off. Fortunately, replacing the ignition key isn't as difficult as it sounds, and it can be done quickly with the proper tools.
