Act 1 Scene 1: The Admiral Benbow Inn

The scene is set at the Admiral Benbow Inn, a small and shabby tavern on the coast of England. The inn is run by a widow and her son, Jim Hawkins, who is the narrator and protagonist of the story. Jim is a curious and brave boy who dreams of sailing the seas and having adventures.

One day, a mysterious sailor named Billy Bones arrives at the inn and rents a room. He is a rough and rude man who drinks a lot of rum and tells stories about his life as a pirate. He also has a large sea chest that he guards carefully and warns Jim to keep an eye out for a one-legged man.

Jim is fascinated by Billy Bones and his stories, but he also senses that he is in danger. He notices that other sailors come to the inn looking for Billy Bones and that they seem to be afraid of him. He also hears Billy Bones sing a strange song about a treasure map and a place called Skeleton Island.

The scene ends with Jim finding a black spot on Billy Bones' palm, which he learns is a pirate's death threat. He realises that Billy Bones' enemies have found him and that they are coming to get him and his chest.

The main theme of this scene is the introduction of the adventure and the mystery that will drive the plot. The setting is contrasted between the dull and ordinary life at the inn and the exciting and dangerous world of pirates.
