Questions to answer (or questions like these):

· what languages do you speak? what aspects of spoken language challenge you? what great joys does spoken language bring you?

· what genres of texts do you usually read? which challenge you? which are you interested in exploring?

· what sort of writing have you done in the past? what short of writing challenges you? what sort of writing do you hope to pursue in the future?

1) English is my first language, but I took Spanish at A-level and thoroughly enjoyed it. My biggest challenge when it comes to spoken language is the actual speaking of it. I often find that my words all get caught together, and the well-thought out idea that I'm trying to express comes out as a rushed garble. However, what I love about spoken language are the little details in the way someone speaks. Whether it be a regional dialect or expressions passed on through family or close friends, everyone's way of speaking is unique, because of their experiences.
2) I usually read sci-fi and fantasy texts. It's fascinating seeing how an author can build a whole different universe for us to explore, with different rules and logics, and how that plays into different tropes and modern ideas.
3) When I was younger, I attempted to write short stories and novels, although did not get very far in either, usually due to lack of interest. More recently, I have started writing poetry; I find it a good way of processing my feelings about a topic, within the challenging rules of rhythm and rhyming. I hope to continue to write poetry, and maybe branch out into musical composition. After all, the only difference between poetry and song-writing is a catchy tune.
