Renault Keys - How They Work
Renaults use a fairly complex system as far as the immobiliser and keys are concerned. This can result in replacement keys being a long drawn out process. It can take a long time to code the car unless you have access to it and bring it to us.
Keys
The Renault Group is better known for its vans, buses and tractors, however they also make cars. It was founded in 1899 and is a huge and well-established company that offers an extensive selection of cars. If you lose the keys to your car, or they are damaged, you will require a replacement key fast. Rather than waiting for your local dealer to purchase a new one for you, and then wait even longer to have it arrive, why don't you let us handle it? We can replace your smart key or remote in a matter of minutes by calling KeyNOW.
If you require a Renault Clio V, Captur 2 or New Zoe spare key we can provide you with a mechanical code to purchase a new key from the dealer. We can also reset your Renault Kangoo Traffic or Master key.
Renault has a rich history of innovation. It was the first company to implement remote central locking in production vehicles. Paul Lipschultz invented this technology for Niemens, an automotive supplier of security components. This innovation was a big leap in the direction of safety for cars.
Remotes
Renault's hands free cards are still widely used in their vehicles, despite the fact that smartphones are replacing them. In fact, two out of three Renault vehicles come with hands-free cards. Their use has increased in recent years. In this video Pascaline from Renault's Products Division describes how these cards work.
Renaults come with an immobiliser system that is quite complicated. It's important to know the basics prior to trying to unlock your car without keys. Some vehicles have an emergency lock installed to the handle on the door of the passenger, which can be used in the event that the keys stop working or the batteries run out. This is a great option for those who don't want to pay for a locksmith.
You'll need a tool, such as an ultra-thin jim or pump-up in order to remove the key fob. If you don't have the tools, it may be necessary to utilize a screwdriver or hammer to take the cylinder out.
You should be able into the passenger side of the door and you will see an unassuming lock that is inserted into the driver's side panel near the door handle. This is a safety measure to stop individuals from accidentally stealing other vehicles or locking themselves to their own. This is a simple, but effective security feature that can save you time and stress when you need to quickly get into your vehicle.
Transponders
Many modern vehicles use transponders to guard against theft of vehicles. These small devices, which are connected to the key fob include a chip and can communicate with the car when it is within of. These chips employ a code to identify the car and key.
The chip transmits signals that are picked up by two coils positioned around the ignition barrel in the vehicle. The coils are activated once the key is within range and send a signal of electromagnetic energy to the transponder chip. The chip responds by sending back an identification code unique to the car. The unique code is then used to unlock the doors and then start the engine.
Similar technology was also used in military planes during the World War 2 era to aid air traffic controllers in identifying them on radar. This type of chip code messaging is still utilized today in the aviation industry.
These systems were thought to be clone proof up until recently. This was due to the fact that there were only 74 Quadrillion (74,000,000,000,000,000) possible codes for each transponder. The technology behind these chips was improved and they are no longer clone proof. This has prompted many auto locksmiths to upgrade their skills by learning to read and write code for these more advanced chips.
Immobilisers
The Renaults are very complicated in the way that they work when it comes to their keys and immobilisers. There are two major systems that affect the way keys are programmed into the car. The older one uses a "kill switch" to disable a vital component of the car's start-up mechanism if the correct key is not present. These are delicate devices that require a technician to assess and repair them if they malfunction.
The newer system is much easier to use. It uses advanced cryptography and rolling security codes to prevent copying the code from the ECU or key. This is the method that will be used on the replacement keys that we supply.
Certain models feature rings that are specific to their vehicle and is not detected by transponder scanners that are standard. This is a great way to prevent hotwiring, and it's also difficult to disable using an ordinary key or transponder emulator. We have a specific product called the Renault Antenna Emulator (RAE) that can be used to bypass this kind of immobiliser in Renault Clio phase 2 models and in some Renault commercial vehicles with ID46 transponders. It works by mimicking operation of a functioning transponder inside the ring antenna. It is able to be used for failed or lost keys without dismantling the ECU. renault car key replacement near me has been tested by Thatcham and approved to offer additional peace of mind for motor insurance customers.
