The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire
The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, was created in 1964. It ranks participants on a scale from introverted to extroverted and stable to neurotic. It assigns one of four titles to a person based on their outcome. Those titles are choleric, melancholic, sanguine, or phlegmatic (the same titles used in Humorism, which you saw in Unit 1). Even though Eysenck was a behaviorist and believed in the importance of learned habits, he believed that your personality traits are purely genetic and inherited. This test has faced heavy criticism over the years and has been accused of being biased and flawed. But, this test is still used to measure personality in genetic research.
The Rorschach Inkblot Test
The Rorschach Inkblot Test was first used in 1921 and is still considered a reliable tool for measuring the subconscious and emotional functioning. It can also highlight any signs of psychosis. Psychosis is when someone starts to struggle to determine what’s real and what’s imagined. The test involves showing an abstract image, and the test taker tries to attach meaning to it. This test is used to examine the subconscious mind. It evaluates how a teenager or child may solve a problem in the moment, and it shows their emotional intelligence and personality traits.
The Rorschach Inkblot Test involves looking at an abstract image and describing what you see. Your responses allow the evaluator to make a psychological evaluation.
The Big Five Personality Test, which you learned about earlier, was first created in 1949 and breaks down the personality into five traits and ranks an individual on how high they rank in each. This is a popular test to gauge how someone may react in specific situations. You can use it to get ideas for the best occupation for you. Job recruiters may also use this to select candidates.
The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)
The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), first developed in 1943, is an in-depth questionnaire of over 500 questions. This test may only be given by a psychologist or therapist who is certified to administer it. It’s considered a reliable measure for identifying a person’s mental functioning. Experts use this test on the television show Married at First Sight, to help match potential marriage partners based on their compatibility.
