Provider Basic
Provider - A provider is a person who gives someone something they need. Health proffesionals, (doctors, hospital, facilities), - AFFILIATED PROVIDER.

1. Primary Care Provider/physicians- who sees people that have common medical problems, is a health care professional who practices general medicine.
Types of Primary Care Physician
1. Family Practice- These doctors can treat patients of all ages, from newborn
2. Internists - sometimes known as Internists or Doctors of Internal Medicine, are experts in complexity. They specialize in adult medicine, and are specially trained to solve diagnostic problems, manage severe long-term illnesses, and help patients with multiple, complex chronic conditions.

*Geriatricians- older people.
Primary care do :

Radiologist : Radiologists are medical doctors that specialize in diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases using medical imaging (radiology) procedures (exams/tests) such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET) and ultrasound.
OB-GYN - Obstetrics involves care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Gynecology deals with reproductive health and the functions and diseases specific to women and girls
Cardiologist - a doctor who specializes in the study or treatment of heart diseases and heart abnormalities.

National provider Identifier - An NPI is a unique identification number for covered health care providers, created to help send health information electronically more quickly and effectively. Covered health care providers, all health plans, and health care clearinghouses must use NPIs in their administrative and financial transactions.
* 10 digit number. Will replace health care provider identifiers in use today standard transactions. It will never change. used in hipaa transaction like attach patients.
Provider identification number- These identification numbers help identify providers in our system , NPI AND SSN.
SSN - 9 digits. Assigned to US citizen and other residents to track income and determine benefits. The Social Security System (SSS) administers social security protection to workers in the private sect
