Normally, we see people ride bikes not wearing a helmet. But this can lead to life-threatening crisis for them. And the traffic police might not be able to capture the bikes of all the people not wearing helmets.
Task:
So we developed this project to aid the traffic police. This project aims to capture the license plates of the people not wearing a helmet and extract it and store it.
Action:
In this project we used YOLOv5 object detection to detect the riders and their license plates. This model detects a total of 4 classes - Helmet, No helmet, Rider and License plate. When an image or a video is input to the model then it first detects whether there are any riders then if the rider detected is not wearing a helmet to marks them as no helmet and then extracts the license plate of these no helmet riders. The license plate extraction is done with the help of easyocr library.
Result:
Then the extracted LPs will be put into the License plate csv. And we achieved an accuracy of 79%.
