Maleficent Costume - Angelina Jolie's Dream Come True

Mirojnick used a mix of industrial and traditional materials, such as silk, leather, wool faux fur, chain-link mesh. She added crystals, lace and feathers to the mix and embroidered florals.

The wing's silhouette has been designed like a skeletal bat and the fabric expands and narrows as an accordion bellows to create a dramatic effect when she flaps her arms. To create the wings' dramatic movements she collaborated together with costume designer Manuel Albarran, who also made body jewelry for Katy Perry and Lady Gaga (as as Jolie's horns). Albarran sews each feather individually to give it an organic look.


When it came time to film Maleficent's transformation into a dragon the team needed to come up with something light enough to move naturally but strong enough for an extended flight sequence. "The biggest challenge was that it needed to be a creature that was very light and flexible yet sturdy and durable for long flight sequences," Says Makeup Artist David White. "We created the horns from polyurethane foam."


The style was completed by a dark purple, large-brimmed cap, details of black on the rim, and tiny, pearl and gem-encrusted tiara. She finished the look by wearing red lipstick, and long loose waves in her hair.
